Canonical concept in Pope Benedict XIV’s normative statements; Conclusion Introduction If we open the classical work of Arthur Vermeersch and Joseph Creusen', we can find a detailed description on the canonical process (i.e. De processibus) which analyzes the entire Book IV of the Codex iuris canonici (1917).2 Based on this explanation, as compared with the footnotes of the CIC (1917) is quite clear that Pope Benedict XIV’s works had not only determined the 18lh— 19th century canonical processes, but those had made an indispensable and essential effect on the codified canon law too. Naturally, we cannot forget the strong influence of the Decretum Gratiani (1140)5, the Liber Extra (1234)4 the Liber Sextus (12985), the Extravagantes Communes ( 1500/1503 )\ the decisions of the Council of Trent (Session XXIV)7, the Constitution of Pope Innocent XII (1691-1700)8.
