New geographical records for Hungary are those of C. globocaudatus, S. picae and S. turdi. The species are redescribed and figured on the basis of Hungarian specimens. Key words: Acanthocephala, Centrorhynchidae, birds, morphology, Hungary. INTRODUCTION The family Centrorhynchidae (Palaeacanthocephala) includes predominantly parasites of insectivorous and predatory birds. Only two centrorhynchid species have been reported in previous papers concerning the acanthocephalans from Hungary: Centrorhynchus aluconis (Müller, 1780) (see Murai et al. 1985) and Sphaerirostris lancea (Westrumb, 1821 ) (see Murai etal. 1983, Dimitrova et al. 1990). The aim of the present study is to provide new data on the species composition and morphology of acanthocephalans of the family Centrorhynchidae in Hungary. MATERIALS AND METHODS Specimens were fixed in 70% ethanol and preserved in alcohol-formalin mixture. They were cleared in glycerine (20-100%) or dimethylphtalate and studied in temporary mounts. The measurements are in millimeters and the data included in parentheses appear exceptions. The specimens are deposited in the parasite collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum under their host collection numbers.
