Types of pharynx with a single primary pharyngeal sae This group includes only one alreaey known type (Stephanopharynx Näsmark, 1937), and another new one described below. 1. Coilos type (Fig. 12) Anterior, posterior and lip sphincters absent. Interior circular units small and equal in size. Middle circular series composed of inconsiderable loosely spaced units. Interior longitudinal fibres weakly developed and few, exterior longitudinal fibres well-developed. Radial fibres'form loosely spaced bands with ramification periphery. Primary pharyngeal sac enormous and its inner surface covered with large papillae. (Valid for Stephanopharynx coilos.) Types of pharynx having pharyngeal bulband secondary pharyngeal sacs This group comprises five already known types (Brumptia Näsmark, 19 37; Gastrodiscus Näsmark, 1937; Homalogaster Sey, 1984; Pseudodiscus Näsmark, 1937; Watsonius Näsmark, 1937) and two new ones described below. 1. Choerocotyle type (Fig. 13) Anterior sphincter present, consisting of strong, loosely spaced units. In anterior part of pharynx, muscle units which can be regarded as part of the exterior circular series, scattered in position. Interior circular series moderately developed, units larger in anterior part of pharynx. Middle circular series well-developed, continuing backwards into pharyngeal bulb. Interior longitudinal fibres moderately developed, along both sides of middle circular series. Exterior longitudinal fibres moderately developed. Radial fibres evenly distributed with ramification in periphery. (Valid for Choerocotyle epuluensis.) 2. Macropotrema type (Fig. 14) Anterior sphincter well-developed, compact and terminal. Interior circular units unevenly developed, larger units in posterior half of pharynx. Middle circular series well-developed. Interior longitudinal fibres few, weakly developed. Exterior longitudinal fibres moderately developed. Radial fibres comprising evenly distributed bands, ramifying in periphery. Appendages longer than pharynx. (Valid for Macropothrema pertinax.) Types of pharynx without pharyngeal appendages This group includes nine already known types (Calicophoron Näsmark, 1937; Cephalophi Eduardo, 1982; Dicranocoelium Näsmark, 1937; Explanatum Näsmark, 1937; Giganthopharynx Eduardo, 1982; Liorchis Näsmark, 1937; Orthocoelium Eduardo, 1982 (- Saccocoelium Sey, 1980); Paramphistomum Näsmark, 1937; Pisum Näsmark, 1937) and two new ones described below, 1. Gemellicotyle type (Fig. 15) Anterior sphincter present, with loosely packed units. Interior circular units small and equal in size. Middle circular series well-developed and distinct. Interior longitudinal series poorly developed. Exterior longitudinal series moderately developed. Radial fibres moderately developed, forming no bands. Posterior and lip sphincters, basal, middle and exterior circular series absent. (Valid for Gemellicotyle wallabicola. ) Remarks The diagnosis of the pharynx of this species was published by PRUDHOE (1975), but it was not named.
