Hystrichopsyllidae Hystrichopsylla talpae talpae (Curtis) St. Margarethen: Apodemus flavicollis, Sorex araneus; Maurach: Apodemus flavicollis, Clethrionomys glareolus. Atyphloceras nuperum palinum (Jordan) St. Margarethen: Apodemus flavicollis This subspecies - which was described by JORDAN (1931) on the basis of only a single female specimen - is regarded as one of the rarest fleas in Austria. In the territory of Tyrol MAHNERT was the first to find this subspecies but merely some specimens. Data from Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria give evidence to the fact that this subspecies occurs merely in high mountains on species of Microtinae usually rarely and in a small number. Doratopsylla dasycnema dasycnema (Rothschild) St, Margarethen: Sorex araneus Palaeopsylla kohauti Dampf Plumsjoch: Sorex araneus This scarce species of Palaeopsylla genus seems to follow its hosts (Sorex, Talpa) also to the higher regions as indicated by the data of collection sites published by the above mentioned authors. Palaeopsylla soricis rosickyi Smit St, Margarethen: Sorex araneus It is remarkable that, besides the many P. soricis soricis (Dale) specimens originating from several collection sites, MAHNERT found only a single P. s. rosickyi . It is true that his collection sites were situated at a distance of 40 km to the west and farther. P. s. rosickyi is well-known to be an eastern species thus the range limits of the nominate form and its subspecies are supposed to meet in this territory. This statement seems to be proved by the distribution of MAHNERT (1969) and SMIT (1Ö60).
