To the Knowledge of the Siphonaptera-Fauna in Tyrol (Austria) István SZABÓ Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest "To the knowledge of Siphonaptera-fauna in Tyrol (Austria)"- Szabó, I,- Parasit. Hung. 8. 71-74. 1975. ABSTRACT. In autumn, 1972 the author collected 69 specimens of 3 small mammal species in three localities between Innsbruck and Kufstein so far rarely examined for flea distribution. Data of the found 78 flea specimens belonging to 11 species and subspecies of 3 families are reported. The Austrian Siphonaptera Catalogue (SMIT, 1955) compiled from rather diffused references and data of collection announces many localities of 57 species and subspecies of 6 families. At that time only 11 species could be proved to occur in Tyrol province. Since the first edition of the Catalogue several papers have been published widening the knowledge of localities and hosts of fleas observed in Tyrol (DUNNET, 1955; PEUS, 1969; PEUS and SMIT, 1957; SMIT, 1960, 1966, 1967), Especially much was done by MAHNERT (1969) in the favour of discovering the Siphonaptera fauna of this territory, who - as a result of his several year's work - described various new localities and hosts of 35 species and subspecies of 6 families in Tyrol. In autumn, 1972 we had the opportunity of coUecting small mammals with (killing) traps for parasitological examinations at some points of the territory between Innsbruck and Kufstein which have not been observed before. Our first collection took place (between 27 and 30 September) on the northern slope of Schöllenberg near St, Margarethen, 550-600 m. a. s.l, , to the south of Jenbach on the right bank of River Inn. The second site of collection was (on 1-2 October) 2 km. to the east of the former on the northern steep slope of Ringenwechsler Wald, 850-900 m. a. s.l. , to the south of Mäurach a,Inn. Our traps were set in both sites in beech-pine woods (Fagus silvatica, Pinus abies). FinaUy we could set our traps for a night (4 October) at a distance of 15 km in north-west direction from the above mentioned two sites of collection, at the bottom and in the surroundings of a rocky gully sparsly grown with Swiss pine (Pinus mugo), several hundreds of meters to the north of Plumsjoch hut (Plumsjocher-hütte), 1650 m. a. s. 1. From the three localities a total of 69 specimens of 3 small mammal species (Table 1 ) were collected, on which 78 fleas belonging to 11 species and subspecies of 3 families were found.
