Standing scientific school whose results were held in high esteem both at home and abroad. It can justly be said that there is hardly any field in his science which has not considerably advanced due to his investigations; the results of his versatile research work were published In more than a hundred papers, as well as in numerous handbooks and textbooks. * A number of foreign scientific societies expressed international recognition of his remarkable scientific achievements by electing him to honorary membership. In the course of his multifarious pursuits, academician KOTLÁN participated indefatigably in all projects promising to advance parasitology. Por several decades, he was an active participant in all events concerning parasitoses, of congresses, enquêtes, and meetings at home and abroad.His name Is inseparable from progress in the fight against parasitoses, and it was this name which for more than half a century hall-marked every preventive measure and control: an achievement born of vast scientific knowledge,zealous research work, and an interest in everything new. Toward the end of his life he came to perceive that the future progress and further development of parasitology, a comparatively young science in Hungary, cab be realized only by greater organization and unity; thus, sparing no effort, he strove for the unification and significant expansion of experimental research in parasitology, the promulgation by social means of the results of these studies, the promotion of international contacts for Hungarian parasitologists, the recruitment of applied workers into scientific research, and facilities for the publication of results of parasitological investigations. As the very first of these aspirations, academician KOTLÁN endeavoured to organize the.ranks of parasitologists, by calling into being an independent society of parasitologists. With youthful energy, he took part in all the' organisation preceding the establishment of the Society of Hungarian Parasitologists , and in drafting the bylaws of the Society.
