Dr. Kassai Tibor szerk.: Parasitologia Hungarica 1. (Budapest, 1968)
«MB out natural that the executive council should invite academician KOTLÁN to he its chairman. As such, he fought untiringly for the further realisation of his aims. It was no fault of his that he was unable to attain the two most important objectives of the programme, namely the founding of an independent research centre for parasitology and the launching of a parasitological journal. Understandably these failures damped his spirits and contributed to his resolution to resign at the end of 1966 after serving for three years as chairman, alleging his advanced age as a reason. In appreciation of his outstanding merits, the executive council of the Society elected academician KOTLÁN honorary chairman. In the summer of 1967, our Society held a special festive.-session to honour Dr. KOTLÁN on his 80th birthday. He was oresent himself and we greatly admired his joie de vivre and energy. Indeed, he was still planning several projects, - but he was soon taken away from us, and a lifetime of integrity dedicated to work, and abounding in success, came to an end. A proper assessment of academician KOTLÁN* s entire life-work, scientific achievements, and noble personality cannot lie within the scope of this obituary. Everyone recognizes that by his work Dr. KOTLÁN significantly raised the prestige of Hungarian parasitology and wrote his name indelibly in the history of Hungarian and international parasitological research. We are saying farewell to the beloved Master of Hungarian parasitology and to a great and humane individual. His intellectual heritage, embodied in his scientific and humane attitude, we hereby pledge to treasure with loving care,to be upheld and passed on to those who come after us.
