The other current bibliographies listing musical works, publications in Hungarian and about Hungary published abroad have continuously been published. As regards the retrospective national bibliographies, the manuscript of the volume "Hungarian Literature" of the series "Hungarian Bibliography 1921 — 1944" has reached completion; publication is expected in 1980/81. The second volume of Early Hungarian Printings (1601 — 1635) was also finished. The recording of copies of Hungarian books published between 1712—1800 and preserved in Hungarian public libraries was ended while the registering of those preserved abroad is being continued. Almost 100 thousand copies have been recorded so far, partly in Hungary and partly abroad. In the frame of subject bibliographies, the first volume of the Bibliography of Hungarian Literature and Literary Science, containing the material for 1976 is being printed. Further volumes are in progress. A new series of catalogues of the library's microfilms has also started. Inter-Library (Central) Services New tasks and difficulties arose concerning the operation of the new law on deposit copies, effective since January 1st, 1979. According to the new distribution order the National Library receives less copies than earlier. As a consequence of this, our expenses have increased. We have to purchase the necessary copies both for our readers and for the purposes of international exchange of publications. The distribution of deposit copies became more difficult for the library's Department of Legal Deposits: according to the new instructions, besides central libraries entitled to have complete sets of deposit copies, five regional libraries have authority to receive a complete set of deposit copies each, and further special libraries get the publications that fall into their field of interest. The greatest libraries of general field of interest are authorized to select freely. Accordingly, the new system means a better administration of deposit copies, on the one hand, and makes complete series of deposit copies accessible all over the country, on the othe^ . New aspects of the systems ISBN and ISSN were elaborated (differentiation of maps, etc.). The system of recording of the new distribution of deposit copies is also based on the ISBN and ISSN systems. The Union Catalogues and the Inter-Library Loan Service have improved their services through rationalization of work organization and reforming their methods. Their work became quicker, more exact and reliable. In the Union Catalogue of Books it is possible to locate publications within two months after registration. In 1978 they registered 160,000 entries. The Inter-Library Loan Service endeavours to make work more up-to-date in accordance with the world-program of the Universal Availability of Publications. From among the 26,000 requests they received there were 12 thousands to be forwarded abroad. The rate of fulfilments from abroad was 76.6 per cent. 84.3 per cent of foreign requests addressed to us were fulfilled. The Union Catalogue of foreign periodicals published a location list in two volumes entitled "Current Foreign Periodical Publications in Hungarian Libraries 1976 — 1977". The publishing of a retrospective location list that would contain entries from the very beginning till 1970 is under preparation; there are about 57 titles registered, out of which 33,000 entries are to be published. The International Exchange Service carried on its traditional exchange of publications. The Service was of great help in acquiring "Hungarica" publications and has given considerable book support for foreign scientific, educational and cultural institutions. We received about 18,000 books and 2,000 periodicals from abroad and sent out 34,000 books and more than 4,000 periodicals. The Distribution Service of Duplicates went on processing and distributing duplicates, as well as collecting material for a would-be store-library. (They received 21,000 publications, distributed and collected for the store-library 15 — 15,000 volumes, respectively.) The range of our national central services has been widened. An order of 1978 of the Cultural Ministry concerning library system laid down that the central registration of libraries would officially fall within the competence of the National Széchényi 84
