AZ ORSZÁGOS SZÉCHÉNYI KÖNYVTÁR ÉVKÖNYVE 1968-1969. Budapest (1971)
I. Az OSZK 1968-1969-ben - Az Országos Széchényi Könyvtár 1968—1969. évi működése - Report on the activity of the National Széchényi Library in 1968—1969
Storage, revision of stocks In lack of a new building the new accessions could be stored only by the removal of the^ rarely used material into stack rooms outside the library and placed in cases. The use of these part of the stock became difficult, partly inaccessible. In the course of 1969 the revision of the stocks begun in 1965 was nearly completely finished. So far in 10 collections 4 106 235 units have been controlled. The compilation of the final report on the revision of stocks remains the task of 1970. Preservation of stocks The possibility of restoring the Hungarian periodicals focussed the attention on the tasks of preserving the stocks. In protection of the Hungarian periodicals the organization of a group of collaborators has been begun who carry out the restoration, repairing or rebinding and microfilming of the periodicals in close co-operation. Simultaneously restrictions were introduced in the use of the material of the Periodicals Division, the non-accession to the restored material has been begun and they now are to be consulted on microfilms. In the course of the works of preservation of stocks 13 603 units have been repaired in the book stocks, and 3 942 volumes and 20 597 newspaper pages have been repaired in the stock of periodicals. The workshops of the library (including the works done by other enterprises) bound during the two years 37 026 books, periodicals and newspapers and restored 2623 units of the special collections. In the course of 1968-1969 the Microfilm Division prepared 1 872 133 negativ and positiv microfilm frames with the aim of preservation of stocks. The numerical data of this activity are contained in table No. 5. Readers and Reference Service The data of the visitors and readers to the Library are indicated in table No. 7. In the course of 1968-1969 several reading rooms have been renewed i.e. their equipment were modernized, (microfilmreading machines, electroacustic equipments). Unfortunately the lack of space restricted our intentions in every respect. The reference service worked on the same niveau as before. From among the special collections the work of the Music Division deserves special attention in this field. Written information was given yearly in 150-200 cases, 15% of these referred to literature. Important compilations were made for the National Library Calcutta and the Valata Gramatu Palata* Riga. Bibliographical work Our bibliographical work was carried out similarly to the previous years. The current bibliographies (Hungarian National Bibliography and the Repertory of the Hungarian Periodicals) were regularly published. The latter was widened by the addition of 59 periodicals. Under the title Magyar Könyvészet the yearly cumulations of the Hungarian National Bibliography for the years 1966 and 1967 were published. Beginning with 1967 the principle of applying the subject year was begun. Prom among the supplementary volumes of the yearly national bibliographies volume 1965 of the Hungarian Periodicals and Newspapers, volume 1965-1966 of the Bibliography of Hungarian Bibliographies and volume 1965-1966 of the Directory of Graphic Posters and Engravings were published. Volume 5. (alphabetical index) of the 1945-1960 retrospective cycle bibliography and as supplement the volume of maps were published. By the edition of the reprints of the 1860-1920 Bibliographia Hungarica the publication of the reprint? of the old national bibliographies was completed. Our library made experiments to ascertain the advantages of the computer in the bibliographical classification and edition. Their application in the library practice will however, only be begun in the years to come. The list of our publications is to be found in table No. 8. 50
