I. Az OSZK 1967-ben - Az Országos Széchényi Könyvtár 1967. évi működése - Report on the activity on the National Széchényi Library in 1967
Inter-state cultural agreements contribute to our direct relations with the Lenin State Library, Moscou, Deutsche Staatsbibliothek Berlin, Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig, Matica Srpska, Novi Sad. In the frame of these agreements 6 collaborators of our library went on study tour abroad and one person won scholarship to Paris and one to Vienna. In 1967 the scientific research work gained a wider ground in the library. Dr. Jenő Berlász, scientific collaborator and dr. Béla Dezsényi head of department were entrusted with the compilation of the library's history ; beside them a nine-member working group elaborated the problems of detail. 31 of the research themes dealt with library science and 15 with subjects belonging to other branches of learning. The construction of the library's new building has been going on. In the course of the year, the expenditure reached 15,6 million forint. In the works of planning and construction our library acted as consultant. The activity of the Centre of Library Science and Methods As a consequence partly of a change in the methodological work in the socialist countries, partly of the superintending role of the Ministry of Education, the year 1967 means a turning point in the activity of the Centre of Library Science and Methods. In several fields of its activity of the sociological methods came into prominence and the preparations of orders and decisions for the Ministry of Education gained a growing ground. A working group has been formed for the examination of the libraries' demands and readers' services and as a beginning the reading conditions of the workers have been thoroughly investigated. The preparatory works of orders and decisions have been focussed on the compilation of the "codex of acquisition" determining the sphere of acquisition of the scientific and special libraries, on the establishing of the informational system of the people's economy, on the determination of the special sphere of authority and on the preparation of the statistical reform. On the research works in the field of library science appraisal and recommendations have been drawn up all over the country. Literary reviews have contributed to the success of the research works and the application of the results in practice. The libraries' acquisitional work has been directed by the periodical "Új Könyvek" (Latest Books) and in the bigger country towns by the control of the holdings of libraries of various subject lines and by their collation with the demands. The index and subject word system of "Új Könyvek" have been elaborated. For the better fulfillemnt of the libraries requirements a recommendation for reprinting has been launched and effective help has been given to the libraries discarding their superannuated and redundant material. In an effort to develop the network of public libraries, the conditions of the "district" libraries so far established and acting as intermediate among village libraries have been examined, the principals for the organization and activity of the so called "club libraries" uniting the village libraries and cultural clubs have been drawn up and architectural and furniture plans have been prepared for their accomodation and equipment. In the interest of developing the informational activity of the public libraries our institution published the bibliographies and periodical specimen lists of the reference services of libraries of different types. The propaganda work of the institution comprised the following activities : Publication of the quarterly "Eseménynaptár" (Calendar of important events) y conferences on the methods of propaganda, publication of a guide of ten sheets, a joint edition with the Népművelési Intézet (Institution of Adult Education) on the 50th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution, a wide preparatory and advisory activity. In addition, experts' opinion concerning development was granted to several libraries, the activity of "Könyvtárgépesítési szaktanácsadó állomás" (Advisory Committe for Mechanization of Libraries) and the advices given on library building and equipment are also important to be mentioned. Besides our periodical publications (Könyvtári Figyelő, Gyorstájékoztató a magyar és külföldi könyvtártudományi irodalomról, Új Könyvek, Eseménynaptár, Könyvtárépítés és Berendezés Füzetei) Library Review.
