I. Az OSZK 1967-ben - Az Országos Széchényi Könyvtár 1967. évi működése - Report on the activity on the National Széchényi Library in 1967

Magyar Nemzeti Bibliográfia (Hungarian National Bibliography) and Magyar Folyóiratok Repertóriuma (Repertory of Hungarian Periodicals) have been published in fortnightly issues. The yearly cumulations of the material comprised by the issues of Magyar Nemzeti Bibliográfia have been published under the title „Magyar Könyvészet" and all those publications of several years compilations which serve as supplements to the yearly bibliography. The cumulation for the year 1965 has already appeared, the 1966 volume was compiled but was at press only at the end of the year. From among the several years' compilations volume 1961 — 64 of Magyar Bibliográfiák Bibliográfiája (Bibliography of Hungarian Bibliographies) and the 1964 — 63 volume of Magyarországon megjelent gráfikai plakátok és metszetek címjegytéke (Title list of graphic posters and engravings appeared in Hungary) were prepared and published. In the series of the retrospective bibliographies the third volume of the 1945 — 60 cycle of Magyar Könyvészet (Technical Sciences, Technics) was compiled and edited. Several bibliographical works were finished in manuscript and are at the press, e.g.: 5th volume, index of the 1945 — 60 cycle of Magyar Könyvészet, experimental volume of the Magyar Hírlapok és folyóiratok jegyzéke (List of Hungarian Newspapers and Periodicals) for the year 1965, on the period 1473 — 1500 of Old Hungarian Books, planned to be a joint publication with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, first volumes of the reprints of the great retrospective bibliography Magyarországi Könyvészet. The diversity of the library's activities prove that the creation of the whole system of the Hungarian national bibliography is considered a task of first importance. Our duty is to fill the existing gaps, even if it exceeds at present the possibilities of our library. The publications of the year 1967 are enumerated in table 5. Central services of the library Efforts were made to perform the duties in connection with the library's central services. The number of items handled in the Copyright Copy Division (915 626 pieces) was approx. identical with that of 1966. In the course of the reconstruction of the book catalogues, their final system was established in the Division of Union Catalogues. The cards of 157 905 new acquisitions were placed into this catalogue and information was given to 10 956 inquiries. The number of information with the catalogue of the foreign periodicals was 14 547. The Division has edited the monthly: Külföldi Folyóiratok Országos Gyarapodási Jegyzéke, (National Acquisition List of Foreign Periodicals) in the series of social and natural sciences. The number of applications received by the Interlibrary Loan Service was 23 586. The requested documents were procured and sent to applicants in Hungary in 18 638 cases and abroad in 2067 cases. The International Exchange Service acted partly as the national centre of the international exchange of publications partly effectuated the library's own exchanges. In this capacity it maintained regular exchange relation with about 400 institutions of 60 countries. In the course of the year 19 942 books and periodical publications were sent abroad and 18 959 were received. As a Hungarian Centre it forwarded 6039 shipments arrived in cases from abroad and distributed them among the Hungarian consignees. The exchange of duplicates among Hungarian institutions was made by the Book Distributing Division. Besides its current work, three tasks of importance were accomplished it finished the preparation of the library's duplicates for inclusion to the stock, distributed 26 688 volumes of the belletristic material collected from public libraries in the preceding years among the public libraries of 5 countries and continued processing and distributing the duplicates of periodical publications. Management and direction of the library Dr. Magda Jóború, Director in Chief of the Library has been on diplomatic service since 1966 and she was abroad in 1967 too. In her absence the direction of the library was entrusted to dr. Géza Sebestyén, Deputy Director in Chief. The Board of the library assembled on ten occasions to discuss the basic problems of the current and long-term work. Dr. Géza Sebestyén respresented our library in Warsaw and in Moscow on the Directors' conference of the national libraries of the socialist countries. 52
