BORSA Almost hundred years have elapsed since Károly Szabó had published the bibliography of the works of Hungarian concern printed before 1712. Now, time has riped for the re-elaboration of the first phase of the Hungarian national bibliography, on the basis of the latest results of researches and making vise of modern technics. To accomplish this task, a working group has been formed in the National Széchényi Library ; as a first step of its activity, the working group has given a review on each individual print, published during the period of 1473—1600 in Hungary, moreover, on those published abroad in Hungarian language, observing the chronological order. The article deals with the problems encountered in the course of this work and suggests solutions in principle and in practice. Besides the indication of all the important and external peculiarities of the nearby 1000 publications, the results of the relevant literature have also been concisely treated. The comparatively simplified entries are effectively completed by the tables to be found at the end of the volume "Régi Magyarországi Nyomtatványok" (Old Hungarian Prints) offering reduced reproductions — suitable for indentification — of the title-pages of each work that has been left to us. The reviews trat also the smallest units of the prints, (the preface, dedication, introduction, greeting poems, etc.) describing all important data mentioned in them (names, dates, place-names, etc.) In addition, the aforesaid volume registers all the examples known today of the reviewed old Hungarian prints. Their being faultless or dameged is indicated quite simplified by a new typographic method. The survey of the text-part, so very rich in data, and the orientation in the volume is facilitated by indexes of several layers, compiled according to printing houses, printers, surnames, place-names, titles, first lines of the Hungarian poems, subject of the works, language of the prints and libraries. 324
