Papp, L.: Afrotropical species of the genus Diplochasma, subgenus Sauteromyia (Diptera: Lauxaniidae)

Abdominal tergites 2-6 with a pair each of large quadrate diffusely bordered greyish brown dorsal submedial and comparatively large dark lateral (ventral) spots. Male genitalia (Figs 12-14) characterised by the very short epandrium. Epandrium (Figs 12-13) much higher than broad, short also ventrally and narrowly rounded. Hypandrial connection placed rather ventrally. Cerci normal but their setosity longer than usual (Fig. 13). Parameres (Figs 12, 14) comparatively long and thin, look narrowed in anterior view, actually rounded apically (Fig. 14). Parameral base not much broadened, aedeagal apodeme comparatively long and bacilliform in anterior view. Female epiproct with a pair of 0.21 mm long but thin setae. Cerci and hypoproct short, with rather short hair-like setulae. Discussion - D. (S.) occidentalis sp. n. keys out to couplet 6 in the key above. It is close to D. (S.) variegata sp. n., actually I have not found safe differentiating characters other than in the male genitalia hitherto. Epandrium shorter dorsally and hypandrial connection more ventral than in D. (S.) variegata. Cereal setae longer. Male parameres (Fig. 14, cf. Fig. 24) are less curved in profile. Etymology - The specific epithet ("western") refers to its known distribution, which is West Africa. Diplochasma (Sauteromyia) punctata sp. n. (Figs 15-16,31) Type material - Holotype male: S.
