Verdcourt, B.: Pseudoglessula (Echinoglessula) echinophora subgen. et sp. n. (Mollusca, Pulmonata: Subulinidae) from Ghana
Pseudoglessula (Echinoglessula) echinophora sp. n. (Figs 1-2) Type material - Holotype, with the following label (cited verbatim): "Pseudoglessula (Echinoglessula) echinophora Verdcourt GH, Ghana, Kibi, [compost of fern tree forest] (No. 351.) holotypus 1969.05.11 Leg.: Endrődy-Younga S. 95406/1 Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest". It is housed in the HNHM. Diagnosis - Differs from other subuliniform species of Pseudoglessula BOETTGER, 1892 in the armature of spines arising from the ribs. Description - Shell (Figs 1-2) dark horn-coloured, subulate, truncate, with small projecting oblique tip, with 7 gradually increasing strongly convex whorls with a deep suture, imperforate. Second and third whorls from apex somewhat shouldered above, with very strong spaced unarmed ribs, 6 visible on first from front and 9 on the second; the remainder of the whorls have very similar but less strong ribs, there being about 13 visible on the body whorl. Each rib bearing a medium spreading spine ± 0.36 mm long, which is basally thickened where it joins the rib. Aperture white inside, squarish pyriform, lower edge more or less straight, with a spout-like extension below the columella truncation. Columella strongly rounded to the left then retracted to the right forming a characteristic truncation. Dimensions: height 4.36 mm, breadth 1.8 mm (excluding spines); aperture 1 mm long and wide.
