ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALIS HUNGARICI Volume 98 Budapest, 2006 pp. 173-175. Pseudoglessula (Echinoglessula) echinophora subgen. et sp. n. (Mollusca, Pulmonata: Subulinidae) from Ghana B. VERDCOURT Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 3AB, United Kingdom Abstract - Echinoglessula subgen. n. and Pseudoglessula (Echinoglessula) echinophora sp. n. arc described on the basis of the material collected in Ghana by S. ENDRŐDY-YOUNGA. With 2 figures. Key words - Mollusca, Pulmonata, Subulinidae, West Africa, Ghana. INTRODUCTION I began to work on the undetermined African molluscs of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM) in 2002. Soon after my study of the collection previously dealt with (VERDCOURT 2004) Dr ZOLTÁN FEHÉR, keeper of the Mollusca Collection of that museum informed me that there was further material in spirit, which I agreed to examine. A great deal of it proved to have been collected in Congo (Brazzaville) and Ghana, the Mollusca of which I know very little about. One specimen was so extraordinary that it seemed desirable to describe it. Pseudoglessula (Echinoglessula) subgen. n. Description - Shell slender, subulate; upper 2.5 whorls with very strong spaced ribs; remainder of whorls with less strong but still marked ribs each bearing a distinctive medial spine. Diagnosis - It is probably related to subgenus Ischnoglessula PlLSBRY, 1919, resembling it in its narrow shape and very truncate columella. Type species - Pseudoglessula (Echinoglessula) echinophora sp. n., herewith designated.
