Makhan, D.: Three new genera and two new species of Hydrochidae from different parts of the World (Coleoptera)
Hydrochus vidyae sp. n. (Fig. 18) Holotype. Male. Paraguay, Rio Tebicuarymi, cca. 26°25'S-56°50'W, 20.1.1991, ENDRŐDYYOUNCÏA. Only the holotype is known. Description (holotype male). Body elongate, length 3.7 mm, width 1.5 mm. Colour of head, pronotum, scutcllum and elytra coppery, with blue-green metallic gloss. Head with coarse punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral area smooth, on disc with 7 large shallow depressions; 3 large suboval depressions of them situated in the middle, 2 small suboval ones along each lateral side. Elytra widest at posterior third, lateral area smooth, interstriae wider than striai punctures, convex in the 3rd, 4th and 6th, apical hole absent. Elytral apices rounded. Elytral length 2.7 mm. Male genitalia (Fig. 18): basal piece same size as páraméra. Etymology. This species is named after my niece VlDYA RAMCHARAN. Remarks. This species is very similar to Hydrochus variabilis KNISCH, 1920 from Brazil but there is a difference in the male genitalia. Median lobe is short in H. variabilis (KNISCH), long in H. vidyae sp. n.
