Makhan, D.: Thirty-five new Hydrochus species from the Old and the New World (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)
This species is similar to H. bernardi sp. n. but there is a différence in the shape of male genitalia. Median lobe in H. vanvondeli is narrowed to apex, in H. bernardi widened before apex. Hydrochus bernardi sp. n. (Fig. 34) Holotype: male. Mexico, El Cora Tepic, A. LUDECKE (date unknown) (only the holotype) (Mus. Berlin). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 4.3 mm, width 1.5 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head, pronotum, scutellum and elytra greyish coppery and with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with fine punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side smooth. Disc with five large deep depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one at the centre, two behind this. Posterior margin with two depressions. Elytral length 2.8 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, striai punctures the same size as interstriae, tubercle on 5th interstria very prominent. 9th interstria carinate in almost whole length. Apical holes absent. Elytral apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig. 34): Basal piece short, parameres longer than median lobe. Etymology: This species is named after BERNARD BRUGGE, Curator of the Coleoptera Collection in Amsterdam Ent. Museum (The Netherlands). Hydrochus hanoewanti sp. n. (Fig. 35) Holotype: male. America, East Florida, St. Johns, Bluff, R. FOSTER (date unknown) (only the holotype) (Mus. Berlin). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 6.1 mm, width 2.1 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head, pronotum, scutellum and elytra greyish coppery, with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with coarse punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side smooth. Disc with five large deep depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with five depressions, one at the centre, four behind this. Posterior margin with two depressions. Elytral length 4.0 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, interstriae wider than striai punctures, interstriae flat. Apical holes absent. Elytral apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig. 35): Basal piece same size as páraméra, median lobe short.
