ZANETTI, Verona ZANETTI, A.: Contribution to the knowledge on Eastern Palaearctic Eusphaierum KRAATZ with descriptions of new species (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae: Omaliinae). - Annls hist-nat Mus. nam. hung. 1993, 85: 47-63. Abstract - Seven new species of Eusphaierum from the Eastern Palaearctic Region are described (E. merkli sp. n., E. steinmanni sp. n., E. defyi sp. n., E. szeli sp. n. from North Korea, E. schoenmanni sp. n., E. simillimum sp. n. from Eastern Siberia and E. mahunkai sp. n. from both areas). Lectotypes of E. chinense (BERNHAUER, 1838) and E. nigriventre (MOTSCHOULSKY, 1860) are designated. Figures of aedeagi of all species previously reported from China and Eastern Siberia are presented. Remarks on several species from the same regions are given. With 50 figures. INTRODUCTION In the course of twelve expeditions carried out by the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Korea (1970-1988), large number of specimens belonging to the genus Eusphaierum KRAATZ was collected. Although this paper is based mainly on this material, some Siberian specimens sent to me for study by Dr. A. B. RYVKIN from Moscow and Dr. H. SCHÖNMANN from Vienna will be taken into account as well. No Eusphaierum species was previously known from Korea, neither from the South (YUH et al. 1985) nor from the North. The study of this material has requested the comparison with types and non-typical specimens. The depositories of the investigated specimens are indicated in the text by the following acronyms (individuals responsible for loan of specimens are in parentheses): FMNHC - Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago (Dr. A. F. NEWTON and Dr. M. THAYER). HNHM - Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest (Dr. O. MERKL). NMP - National Museum in Prague (Dr. J. JELÍNEK). NMW - Naturhistorisches Museum, Vienna (Dr. H. SCHONMANN). RYV - collection of Dr. A. B. RYVKIN. Z - collection of Dr. A. ZANETTI. ZMMSU - Zoological Museum of the Moscow State University, Moscow (Dr. N. B. NlKITSKY).
