Ancistrogaster maculifera (DOHRN, 1865) (Fig. 19) Opisthocosmia maculifer DOHRN, 1865, Stettin ent. Ztg, 26: 77. — Holotype male: unknown locality (REINCHARDT 1968: 176: Staatliches Museum für Tierkunde, Dresden and Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien). - Ancistrogaster maculifera (DOHRN); BORMANS, Das Tierreich, 11: 77. — Forficuia petropolis WOOD, 1877, Ins. Abroad, p. 279. - Holotype male: unknown locality. Male colour dark brownish black; legs and forceps light brown. Head rectangular, depressed at vertex; eyes very prominent, more or less as long as the length of head behind eyes. Pronotum slightly longer than broad; lateral margins more or less parallel-sided. Tegmina and wings fully developed. Abdomen very expanded medially; sides of abdominal tergites 4-7 with very large lateral spines. Ultimate tergite transverse, simple. Forceps (Fig. 19) slightly curved at basal portion; branches trigonal; inner margins with ventral keel crenulate; inner tooth at basal section; apices of branches pincers. Female similar to male in colour, abdomen without lateral spines medially ; forceps long, slender, simple. Length of body with forceps: male: 16-18 mm, female: 15,5-19 mm. Distribution : Mexico, Venezuela, and Brazil. Ancistrogaster mixta BORELLI, 1906, Boll. Mus. Zool. Anat. comp. R. Univ. Torino, 21 (Nu. 531): 12. — Holotype male: Museo ed Istituto di Zoológia Sistematica, Torino, gen. prep. No. 744, det. Dr. H. STEINMANN). - Ancistrogaster mixta BORELLI, proposed synonymy with variegata DOHRN by BURR, 1912, Annls K. K. Naturhist. Hofmus., Wien, 26: 338. Male unicolorous dark brown. Head tumid, eyes very large, slightly longer than the length of head behind eyes; vertex with small yellowish spots posteriorly. Pronotum more or less quadrate; lateral margins parallel-sided; posterior margin rounded. Tegmina and wings fully developed. Abdomen depressed, strongly expanded medially; sides of abdominal tergites 4-7 with large lateral spines. Ultimate tergite very broad, posterior margin undulate. Forceps (Fig. 20) curved at median section; inner margin with small but prominent tooth basally; apices of branches pincers. Genitalia (Fig. 21) of Ancistrogaster-type; virga within genital lobe with sclerotized basal section. Female very similar to male, abdomen without lateral sipes medially; forceps simple, tapering, contiguous. Length of body with forceps: in both sexes: 14-16,5 mm. Distribution : Costa Rica.
