scales low ribs are running parallel with the suture. Scales are slightly serrated (Figs. 27-30). — The five whorls gradually widen and become somewhat angled on the last one which is rounded and inclined just before the aperture. The oval, crescent-like aperture without thickening forms a sharp margin bending back over the umbilicus and partly covers it. Dimension: 4.5-5.5 : 5.5-6.6 mm. Genital apparatus: Penis (P) is spherical or egg-shaped having a thin wall. Its inner space is almost filled by the papilla joning to the lower part of the wall and leaving only a small cavity on the atrial side. The short, plump papilla (PP) is inclined on one side, lobate and has a wrinkled surface (Figs. 10 and 13). Its wall enclosing a wide cavity is about twice as thick as that of the penis (Fig. 10). In the opened papilla a ring-like swelling can be seen accompanied by the marginal lobes protruding into the inner space (Type A, Fig. 14). The terminal part of the penis is conical. Cylindrical epiphallus (E) is about three times as long as the penis. Retractor penis (PR) attaches to its proximal third. Based on the inner structure of the epiphallus two different part; can be distinguished. Five regular triangular wrinkles thickening and swelling at the terminal part of epiphallus-penis seem to be characteristic features (Type C. Fig. 14). The atrial region and the proximal third of the epiphallus are linked by a muscle-like membrane. Flagellum (F) is cylindrical and has the same size as the epiphallus while vas deferens (VD) is about twice longer. There are no published data about the inner structure of bursa hasta. Vertical section of the bursa hasta and the vagina (V) shows a characteristic structure (Fig. 11). Vagina connected with the central cavity of the bursa hasta only over a very limited area. The cavity of the internal bursa (BH 2) is confment with the cavity of the external bursa (BH 1) before they reach the central cavity. The papilla filling remaining part of the external bursa covers more than the half of the telum which does not reach the vaginal region with its apex. Comparing with the vagina bursa hasta is about of double volume (Fig. 11). Figs. 1-3. Hygromia transsylvanica (WESTERLUND), shell. — Figs. 4-6. Hygromia deubeli (KIMAKOWITZ), shell. — Figs. 7-9.
