second joint with a whorl of strong bristles, third joint comparatively short, with dense 0.015-0.020 mm long pubescence, vie, vti, oc and 2 ors bristle pairs strong, four pairs of thick if. Upper 3/4 of facial plate flat (protuberance between antennái bases very low), lower fourth of face very much protruding; vibrissae long and thick, one upcurving genal bristle. — Thorax robust, bristles long and thick but partly broken, prescutellar area obliterated by a pin. 1 h, 2 np, 1 sa, 1 pa, 2 sc, 1 st bristles pairs well discernible. — Wings light with dark brown veins. Vein r i+s curved in basal half, straight in apical half as in L. silvatica MEIG. C x = 1.40, costa with long thin hairs, discal cell long, t a —tjt v = 3.36, lower corner of discal cell rounded, without vein appendage. — Legs long, femora thickened, mid femur with 4 anteral thornlike bristles at apex, mid tibia (Fig. 1) with a shorter ad at 5/18, long ad at 1/3, 2/3 and 4/5, short ad at 13/18, short but thick anteral bristle at 13/18 and strong pd at 7/9 of tibia; bristles not long compared to length of tarsi. Hind tibia without dorsal preapical bristle or bristle-like hair. — Female 9th tergite very big but bare (Fig. 2), cerci evolved in a pair of long, tipped, heavily chitinized spade-like structure with some fine hairs on outer edge (Fig. 3). Holotype female (in the Zoological Institute Academy of Sciences, Leningrad): "100-68" — (illegible handwriting) -— ABX. ACCP, Xo/jxap, Hopfei P. schaposchnikovi SAT., JIsCTep. The holotype is in very poor condition but some of its characteristics are so peculiar that it seemed worth of describing it as new on the basis of a single female. The wings of the holotype are broken and glued under the specimen, its abdomen is wrinkled except for the terminal segments. L. terrestris sp. n. belongs to the silvatica species-group 0' 4+5 curved in basal half, straight in apical half, discal cell long and rounded) but it differs from all of its congeners by its minute eyes and by its strongly modified, long, pointed, spade-like female cerci.
