Vásárhelyi, T.: Three new Carventine species from New Guinea (Heteroptera, Aradidae)

ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALES HUNGARICI Tomus 71. Budapest 1979. Three New Carventine Species from New Guinea (Heteroptera, Aradidae) by T. VÁSÁRHELYI, Budapest Abstract — Description of three new species of the Aradid subfamily Carventinae (Euricoris szentivanyi sp. n., E.ferox sp. n., Drakeida setifera sp. n.) is given with a key to the species of the genus Euricoris. With 5 figures. There is a small Aradid material in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, collected in different parts of the Notogaea, of which now three new species are described from New Guinea. Drakeida setifera sp. n. is most interesting since the genus Drakeida was described on the basis of a single specimen and so far no other specimen has been found. Euricoris szentivanyi sp. n. (Fig. 1) çf, apterous, covered with dark brown incrustation. Head shorter than wide (41 :43). Anterior process of head reaching to about half of antennái joint I, genae long, well surpassing apex of elevated clypeus. Antenniferous tubercles acute, long, slightly surpassing apex of clypeus. Eyes semiglobose not pedunculate. Postocular region rounded, behind eyes suddenly narrowing to neck. Antennae long, joints I and IV club-shaped, II and III cylindrical. Rostral atrium open, rostrum reaching slightly beyond hind border of eyes. — Pronotum much shorter than wide (25 : 66). Collar pentangular, convex, bordered posteriorly by deep f urrow. Disc with deep median longitudinal furrow. Anterior border with two deep incisions. Anterolateral angles rounded, reaching very slightly beyond collar, lateral border with a V-shaped emargination, posterolateral angles angular, tip rounded, hind border wide V-shaped. — Mesonotum wider than pronotum (128 : 100), lateral border with lobular process reaching posteriorly, hind border with two processes reaching posteriorly and with a median triangular plate between them, latter reaching above metanotum. — Metanotum and first two abdominal tergites fused with apparent sutures forming a broad plate elevating into two large tubercles. Lateral carina and tubercles separated by slight longitudinal furrows and an elevation between them. Lateral border fused with connexival plates of abdominal segments II—III, with three small lateral lobes. — Abdomen broad, tergal plate about rectangular, glabrous areas expressed. Connexival plates with longitudinal carinae besides glabrous areas, and with tuberculate lobes on lateral margin. Connexival plates VI and VII with long, acute lobes behind spiracles, VII reaching far beyond tip of hypopygium. Spiracles II-IV ventral III and IV situated closer to margin, V sublateral, VI-VIII lateral. — Body under incrustation shiny ferruginous brown, first 3 antenna! joints, carinae, lateral lobes and legs covered with short erect bristles. Measurements (rf): total length 5.3 mm, length of head 1.1 mm, width of head 1.15 mm, length of pronotum 0.92 mm, width of pronotum 1.78 mm, width of mesonotum 2.26 mm, width of abdomen across segment IV 2.68 mm, relative length of antennái joints I to IV as 25 : 17 : 17 : 12,5. Holotype: rf, "New-Guinea, Wau (NE), Kilolo Creek 1000 m., 31. VIII. 1968."; "NGW-B 61, leg. DR. J. BALOGH" deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. The specimen was collected from a fallen decaying tree. It is the author's great pleasure to dedicate this species to Dr J. Szent-Ivány who also participated in collecting the material at hand. Euricoris ferox sp. n. (Figs. 2-3) c/9> apterous, relatively large, body covered with thin durty brown incrustation. Head about as long as wide (çf 55 : 57, $ 54: 56) medially convea, laterally flattened. Genae much surpassing elevated clypeus, acute, with small lobe at the base of antennae. Anterior process of head
