Satô, M.: Stenelmis Dufour species of Korea (Coleoptera, Elminthidae)

ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALIS HUNGARICI Tomus 70. Budapest 1978. Stenelmis Dufour species of Korea (Coleoptera, Elminthidae)* by M. SATÔ, Nagoya Abstract — Description of Stenelmis koreanus sp. n. is given completed with the specific differences from its nearest ally. With 3 figures. The widespread genus Stenelmis DUF. is represented by more than 100 species, of which about 60 species are known from Asia, excluding Korea from where heretofore no species of the genus had been recorded. Fortunately, I had an opportunity through the courtesy of DR. Z. KASZAB to examine a considerable number of specimens belonging to the genus Stenelmis captured at Korea. The specimens consist of two species, and one of which is S. vulgaris NOMURA, while the other is seems to be a new species. In addition to the above material, some other specimens of Korean Stenelmis preserved in the collection of the California Academy of Science, were also examined through the kindness of Mr. H. B. LEECH. They proved to belong to S. vulgaris. In the present paper, I give the description of a new species and some notes on S. vulgaris from Korea for the first time, based upon the collections mentoined above. Before going further, I wish to express my cordial thanks to DR. ZOLTÁN KASZAB, Director-General of the Természettudományi Múzeum, Budapest and Mr. HUGH B. LEECH, Angwin of California for their kindness to give me the privilege to study the Korean Stenelmis-species. Stenelmis vulgaris NOMURA (Fig. 1) Stenelmis vulgaris NOMURA, 1958. Entom. Rev. This species is common throughout the main land of Japan, except Hokkaido. Its occurrence in Korea is recorded for the first time. In Tsushima, intermediate area of Kyushu and Korea, the species is unknown so far, but it most likely also occurs there. The male genitalia of the species is herein illustrated for the first time based upon the Korean specimen (Fig. 1). Stenelmis koreanus sp. n.
