Bayoumi, B. M.: Two new oribatid mites (Acari) from Egypt

Two New Oribatid Mites (Acari) from Egypt by B. M. BAYOTJMI, Budapest Abstract — Two new Oribatids: Microzetes aegyvticus sp. n. and Perxylobates obesus sp. n. are described from soil samples of Egypt. With 5 figures. The material of the present study was collected by the author in Egypt in June, 1975. The samples yielded two Oribatid mites new for science ; they are described below. I am especially grateful to DR. S. MAHTJNKA, Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, to have the opportunity to examine the type-specimens described by him (MAHTJNKA in print), and for his invaluable suggestions. The present type-materials are deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Microzetes aegypticus sp. n. (Figs. 1-2) Measurements: Length : 286 u, ; breadth : 204 \x. Dorsal side: (Fig. 1): Rostrum protruded, cup-shaped, its tip provided with minute teeth. Rostral setae long, smooth, flagelliform, inserted on lateral base of rostrum. Lamellae broad, covering most of prodorsal region. Two lamellae meeting each other at basal part of lamellar setae. Lamellar seta long, spiniform, provided with considerably long bristles on its inner side. A pair of hook-like lamellar apophyses present in between two lamellae. Interlamellar seta agreeing with generic type: long, smooth and reaching base of rostrum. Interlamellar region more or less triangular in shape. Sensillus long, setiform and proclinate. Its outer side more densely ciliated than inner one. Notogaster smooth, with fine longitudinal lines decurrent posteriorad from dorsosejugal suture. Pteromorpha (Fig. 2) with a minute lateral tooth. Nine pairs of short, thin notogastral hairs present. Ventral side: Very similar to that of generic type. Two pairs of thin longitudinal lines arising close to outer latero-basal margins of hypostome and diverging posteriorad towards middle part of epimeral region. Epimeral setal formula: 3-1-3-3; of which la, 16, lc, 2a and 3c short, while rest relatively long. 6 genital, 1 aggenital, 2 anal and 3 adanal pairs of setae present. Anterior pair of genital setae relatively long and finely barbed. All tarsi monodactyle. Material examined — Holotype (78-HO-76): Orman Park, Giza district, 22. VI. 1975. Remarks : The present species is the nearest ally of M . grandjeani MAHTJNKA, 1977, recorded from Israel,' but it can be distinguished from the latter by its protruded rostrum, size and shape of lamellae, the presence of lamellar apophyses, and by the sparsely ciliated inner margin of sensillus.
