"Figs. 15-1 7. Apanteles furtim sp. n. 9 : 15 = head behind eyes, in dorsal view, 16 = part of right fore wing, 17 = tergites 1-3. — Fig. 18. A. longicauda (WESM.) 9 : head behind eyes, in dorsal view. 3. Ovipositor sheath nearly as long as third tibia + basitarsus (Fig. 14, 1. c.) 4. Stigma brown*. 5. First tergite 1.4-1.5 times as long aS wide at hind (28 :18-19, X 100), its sides subparallel or parallel (Fig. 13, I.e.). 3. Ovipositor sheath as long as threefourths of third tibia. 4. Stigma opaque brown with a pale yellow basal spot (Fig. 16). 5. First tergite 1.6 times as long as wide at hind (35 :22, X 100), its sides anteriorly feebly arched, posteriorly parallel (Fig. 17). In NIXON'S key (1972) to the NW European species of the laevigatus-gvowp it runs to A. cytkerea NIXON (England), however, the two species may be sharply differentiated by the features as follows : A. cytherea NIXON 1. "...basal field unusually long, about twice** as wide as medially long" (Fig. 30, in NIXON 1972: 742). 2. "Hind wing decidedly narrow, distinctly narrower than in laevigatus (Fig. 4)" (NIXON 19 72: 719, 739). 3. "Ovipositor sheath about one-and-twothirds longer than hind tibia. . ." (1. c.) 4. "Head in facial view slightly transverse" (1. c.) A. furtim sp. n. 1. Basal field ( = 2nd tergite) normally long, at base three times wider than long medially (Fig. 17). 2. Hind wing not narrow, normal in its width, similar to A. laevigatus or A. longicauda. 3. Ovipositor sheath as long as threefourths of hind tibia. 4. Head in facial view distinctly transverse, similar to A. longicauda. In all other features not expounded here the new species agrees with A . longicauda (WESM.). Body 3 mm long. * In the original description (PAPP 1975: 242) "stigma and n. cost opaque brownish yellow", however, the correct characterization must be worded as stigma brown and n. cost, opaque brownish yellow. ** In the original description, incorporated into the key, NIXON (1972: 708) characterized the basal field (or second tergite) as "three times" wider than medially long. However, measuring the respective portions of his Fig. 30 the widest breadth (at posterior end) of second tergite is only twice larger than its length (16:8.5 in mm).
