Tsuneki, K.: Sphecidae (Hymenoptera) from Korea

s. str., interantennal process short, just as in the Japanese race; pronotum with collar seen obliquely from above: Fig. 13, with antero-lateral corners markedly produced (in the typical and Japanese races only gently and roundly produced). Sclupture and punctuation generally similar to those of the Japanese relative. Ç. Length 5—6.5 mm. More closely resembles P. a. nipponicola than in çf except the colour of the legs which is similar to that of çf, but the tibiae in part slightly more distinctly blackish; antennae black, with a brownish spot on joints 3—11 beneath, as in P. a. nipponicola. The form and the degree of the anterior protuberance of the clypeus also similar, but the pronotal processes (triangular in form and flattened and slightly reflected) similar to those of çf, much stronger than in P. a. nipponicola. Holotype: çf, Prov. Ryang-gang, Hyesan, Hotel garden, 23. VIII. 1971 (No. 193). — Paratypes: 1 9> do., 1 9> Kaesong, Mts. Pakyon, Pakyon popo, 27 km NE from Kaesong, 10-12. IX. 1971 (N. 257). Remarks. — Apparently the female of this species is very similar to that of P. roettgeni VERHOEFF, having the white labrum and is likely to be mistaken. By the following distinctions however, it can easily be separated from this species: 1. Flagellar joints of antennae with brownish spots beneath (sometimes, however, they become not so conspicuous), 2. the width of the anterior margin of the median produced part of the clypeus is much less than the distance between its lateral corner and the eye (in P. roettgeni nearly equal in width). 34. Diodontus minutus orientális ssp. n. Ç (Fig. 14) Diodontus minutus: TSUNEKI, 1972, p. 191 (partim, inch Korea). In the Korean subspecies (çf) the collar of the pronotum is slightly longer and more distinctly crenate, with the anterolateral corners produced and angulated (Fig. 14) ; frontal process above the antennái base is much longer and very conspicuous and the ground microcoriaceous sculpture of the pygidial area much weaker, with the surface more strongly shining. Otherwise as in the typical form. çf unknown. Holotype: 9, Prov. Ryang-gang, Hyesan, Hotel garden, 23. VIII. 1971 (No. 193). — Paratype : 1 9, do. Genus Diodontus CURTIS, 1834 Subgenus Corenius subgen n. The new subgenus (based on the female only) is characteristic in having the strongly developed triangular process at the postero-ventral corner of the temple (Fig. 17) the acutely pointed antero-lateral angles of the pronotal collar (Fig. 18) and the angulated tubercles of the pronotum. Type: Diodontus (Corenius) chosenensis sp. n.
