6. Semiothisa saburraria kenteata STAUDINGER Dt. ent Z. Iris, 1896, 9: 273. In view of the confusion and uncertainties concerning the separation of the diverse fori us, I think it justified to submit a detailed description of the subspecies on the basis of the unparalleled series now available from Mongolia. The subspecies in question was cited by STAUDINGER in 1896 (loc. cit.) as "Macaria Intermaculata STGR. var. Kenteata STGR." This statement preceded the publication of the actual description of "Intermaculata STGR." (D. ent. Z. Iris, 1897, 10:41), but, in any case, the specific name given by STAUDINGER is a junior subjective synonym (saburraria EVERSMANN, 1881 = intermaculata STAUDINGER, 1897). Incidentally, STAUDINGER himself wrote about saburraria Ev. (D. ent. Z. Iris, 1897, 10:65), but relegated it to the genus Thamnonoma, remarking, however, that the species is unkown to him ("Mir ist diese von EVERSMANN nach Stücken von Irkutsk beschriebene Art in natura unbekannt..."). Dimensions. No essential difference in size between the sexes. Average of alar expansion 23 mm, extreme values: 21—26 mm. Form, color and pattern. Fore wing elongately triangular, cost a arehed only near obtuse apex, termen weakly arcuate, tornus rounded. Margin of hindwing with a weaker and a stronger projection. Color rather varying, cephalic and thoracic hue agreeing more or less with basic color of forewing. Forewing usually a darker, hindwing a lighter, ochreous yellow, but frequently also brownish or yellow. Forewing with four transverse stripes: inner two stripes nearly straight, outer two broken; the stripes either dark ochreous or brown to dark brown, in this latter case segmented by the light veins into dark sections. Hindwing with three slightly lighter and narrower transverse stripes. Underside of wings brownish yellow, pattern indistinct. Differentia subspec ifi c a. The nominate form, ranging principally in the Amur region, is smaller, its basic color ashen grey, covered only superficially by yellowish scales, the pattern reduced or wholly absent. Ecology. First stages and foodplant unknown. Univoltine, on the wing from the middle of June till the middle of August. Distribution. Hitherto know from the Kentei and Sayan Ranges, and from Mongolia. — Locus t y p i c u s : Kentei Mts. Collection data. Bulgan aimak: 5 km W von Somon Daschinöilen, 1140 m, 2.
