Ujhelyi, J.: Data to the systematics of the sections Bulbosae and Caespitosae of the genus Koeleria, XII.
cm long and 1,5—2 mm wide, flat or slightly convolute, greyish or cinerascent, rarely pilose, marginally sporadically ciliate, with cilia present also basally, auriculate. Vaginae 3,5 mm long, nearly glabrous. Ligulae 0,4 mm long, dentate, marginally very minutely ciliolate. Juvenile blades 15—18 cm long and 1—1,5 mm wide, often convolute or slightly explanate; these latter are exteriorly situated, with numerous minute primoridia of minute macrohairs, therefore subglabrous, their margine sporadically ciliate (also basally), greyish, interior ones definitely convolute, nearly glabrous, with only very sporadically appering very small primordia of macrohairs, vagine 3—5 cm long, subglabrous. Ligulae dentate. Culm foliaceous up to one-third its lenght, blades, 3,5 cm long and 2 mm wide, acute, flat or convolute apicad, glabrous, marginally very minutely scabriusculous, ariculate. Vaginae 9 cm long, glabrous. Ligulae 0,5 mm long, also dentate, marginally minutely crenate. Culm about 50 em long and 1 mm wide, glabrous. Panicles 5—7 cm long and 1,2 cm wide, less compact, always lobate, but lobes short (similarly to those of Koeleria albescens DC). Panicle elongately cylindrical, shiny, pale yellow. Spiculae about 6 mm long and 2 mm wide, 2—3-florous, shiny. Glumae unequal, lower ones 4 mm long, lanceolate, upper ones 5 mm long, oval, obtuse; lemmae 5 mm long acute, very minutely sericeous, paleae 4,5 mm long, bicarinate, hyaline, acute. Antherae 1,5 mm long. The plant, with its holotype deposited in the herbarium of the University in Prag (PRC) was collected by L. MATHONNET, under the name Koeleria setacea, a taxon quite misinterpreted by DOMIN. There are two specimens in the Prague collection; the second exemplar is without collection data, bearing only DOMIN'S revisional label. It is apparent that originally it was on a separate sheet. According to DOMIN'S label, he identified it at first as K. vallesiana —- as witnesses by his remark in the Monograph: "Habitat in Gallia: Hautes Alpes; environs de La Grave cum K. vallesiana" . This identification might have been the basis of the assumption that Koeleria mannagettae (DOM.) UJH. grows thogether with Koeleria vallesiana, therefore, similarly to Koeleria alpigena DOMIN, this plant, too, might have originated from the crossing of Koeleria gracilis — whose occurrence there DOMIN did not doubt, indeed, assumed it — and Koeleria vallesiana. It was possibly owing to the narrow vaginae and convolute blades of the second exemplar that DOMLN thought of K. vallesiana. On the label, the name Koeleria vallesiana is crossed out by a blue pencil, and instead added, by the same blue pencil, the name K. Mannagettae Rev. K. DOMIN. This must have been a later additon. In neither the morphological nor the anatomical characteristics can the features of Koeleria vallesiana (HONCK.) BERTOL. be recognized, but, by its habit and finer construction, rather those of Koeleria albescens DC, as evinced also by the anatomical structure of the leaves, However, it is not identical with this latter plant. The acute state of the lemmae and glumae is triking — a feature less characteristic of Koeleria albescens DC, with these organs being more or less obtuse, and the deviating glabrousness of the culm below the panicle. Both features, however, are characteristic of Koeleria schroeteriana (DOM.) UJH. In assesing the specific value of this plant, I refer to the discussion concerning Koeleria alpigena DOM. above. Also this problem can be solved only by investigations in the habitat. If we are confronted by a distinct species, appearing in however a small population, it has to be found in the Hautes-Alpes, a task of investigative work in situ. Concerning the nomenclature of Koeleria mannagettae (DOM.) UJH., I have to point out that DOMIN did not regard Koeleria mannagettae DOM. as a distinct species,
