Glumae inaequales, inferiores 5,4 mm, lanceolatae, suj^eriores 6 mm longae, ovoideae, acidae, vel acuminatae; lemmae 6 mm longae, acutae, superficie minutissime puberulae, paleae 5 mm longae, bicarinatae, hyalinae, acutae. Antherae 2,5 mm longae. (Plate I, Fig. 4). Gellulae epidermidis laminae foliorum innovationum magnitudine magnae. Series cellularum costalium 3—4, intercostalium 4—5. Habitat in montibus Gantaliensibus (Massif du Central) Galliae meridionalis. Holotypus adest in herbario Musei et Universitatis, Zürch (Z) Holotypus: Koeleria eristata PERS. var. vestita f. HÉRIB. Nocr de Nassivière (Cantal) 7 Août 1884. F. HÉRIBAUD. The species is dedicated to FRÈRE HÉRIBAUD, the collector of the plant. Description of the leaf epiderm : On the abaxial and axial sides of the innovational leaf the cells are large, elongate; cell walls straight, thin. Senile blade with weakly developed, 2—4-seriate costal zone, parenchymatous cells elongate, alternating only sporadically with silica-bodies, cells narrow, thin-walled, silicabodies oblong, narrower than parenchymatous cells, often wholly absent, then costal field composed only of parenchymatous cells. Intercostal zone 6—7-seriate, their walls very thin, cells greatly elongated, sporadically alternating with minute macrohairs and even more sparsely with stomatal cells. Pubescence in middle of field deriving from elongate macrohairs, costal zones occasionally differing from intercostal field by absence of hairs. Habit of juvenile blades greatly differing from that of senile ones (characteristic, incidentally, of also the other members of the Series, but this feature resembles most the situation in Koeleria albescens DC). Costal zone 2—5-seriate, cells very narrow and very thin-walled, sporadically alternating with small silica-bodies, these latter occasionally absent from several parts of the field. Intercostal zone 4—5-seriate, cells slightly wider than those of costal zone. Parenchymatous cells rather regularly alternating with primordia of minute microhairs; zone medially with longer macrohairs, marginally with merely their primordia present (hence blades glabrous) (Plate III, Fig. 3; Plate IV, Fig. 1). Stomatal cells 53 p. A definitely robust, loosely cespitose plant. Culms recumbent, rhizome ramifying, about 3 cm long and 3 mm thick, ligneous, vetust vaginae whole or widely lacerated, 3,5 cm long, 1,5 mm wide, slightly convolute, hirsute, auriculate, basally ciliate; vaginae 4 cm long, densely and appressedly puberulous. Ligulae very small, dentate, whol or bicarinate, marginally minutely ciliate. Juvenile blades 16 cm long and 1—1,5 mm wide, partly convolute, viridescent, hirsute or inner ones glabrescent, slightly auriculate, basally ciliate ; vaginae 4 cm long, minutely ciliate, cilia reflexedly appressed. Developed culm foliaceous beginning at half it height, culm-leaves 4,5 cm long, 2,5 mm wide, acute, explanate, marginally scabriusculous, weakly auriculate, vaginae 12 cm long, apically glabrescent, marginally ciliate, and at most densely hairy basad. Ligulae 1,5 mm long, dentate or weakly rounded, marginally crenate. Culm 63 cm long, and 1,5—2 mm thick, mostly densely pubescent. Panicle large, 8,5 cm long, 1,2 cm wide, cylindrical, compact, slightly carinate,
