used to designate any other taxon. This is also the reason why I do not apply to it the nomen dubium mistakenly used by K. DOMIN. Cytotaxonomical examinations list diverse numbers under the name Koeleria pyramidata (LAM.) DOM., but their evaluation will be made in a separate paper. XV. Series Ciliatae ÚJHELYI, series nova Vaginis glabris, foliis glabris ad margine cilialis, paniculis laxe cylindricis vel pyramidalibus. To this Series belong all those species constituting genetical lines which range exclusively in the Alps, from the foothills to the subnivose regions. The three well delimitable species, confused merely by incorrect concepts, of this series are characterized by their rather loosely cespitose habits owing to the extravaginal innovation, the few culms bearing inflorescence, the glabrosity of the plants which, in contrast to the members of the Series Molles UJH., extends through the sheaths also to the leaves and the panicles, the ciliate leaf margins, the usually nitid panicles and their appearance (concurrently with the increase in polyploidy), and the looser and longer rachi—hence a pyramidale panicle. Parallel with polyploidy, the blades of the diploid grade plant are hardly ciliate, while with its growth the number of cilia on the margins also increases. Similarly, the rachi of the high grade derivative is occasionally pubescent under the panicle. Of the three species belonging to the Series I could retain the name of but one; the names applicable to the other two had already been used in such different meanings and for so many other species that to retain them would have been contrary to the regulations of the Codex. 44.
