Description of the leaf epiderm : On the abaxial and axial sides of the innovational leaves the cells are small, the cell walls densely sinuous. On the senile blades the costal zone is 2-6-seriate, the parenchymal cells alternating with silica bodies whose wall is also discernibly sinuous. The intercostal zone is 4-8-seriate. The long parenchymal cells alternate with stomata in the median field of the zone; the stomata are small. Occasionally the initials of macrohairs are also present. The structure of the juvenile leaves is similar, but the cells are narrower, hence the silica bodies also oblong; the costal zone is occasionally absent and then the intercostal zone displays a double number of cell rows. The walls are also sinuous. Pili are absent from the zone. The stomata measure 36 p. (Plate II, Fig. 2, 3). The loosely cespitose plant grows to about 60 cm. The sheaths are at most 2 cm long, glabrous, rufescent or pale yellowish. The rhizomata are short and gracile. The senile leaves are 7-8 cm long, greenish, 1.8 mm wide, with some scattered cilia at most at their bases. The juvenile blades are elongate, convolute, setiform, 0.5 mm wide, glabrous. The culm-leaves reach only to about half the length of the developed plant, they are 5 cm long, 1 mm wide, and also glabrous. The ligulae of all leaves are abrupt, very small. The culm is 50 cm long, 1 mm thick. The panicle is cylindrical, in its lower part interrupted yet not lohnte, violaceous, occasionally pale yellowish, 5-7 cm long, 1 cm thick. The spiculae are 5 mm
