parts. Nor can the results be applied in typological investigations, since features thus liable to change with time cannot be used for comparisons. However, one still has to endeavour to obtain a knowledge of basic data and connections. This was what prompted me to work out my available research material, together with an attempt to complete the sporadic home data. In our home literature, head measurements of children were first published by NEMESKÉRI (4), with reference to the study of the ethnic group in Ivád. I. DOBÁNY (1) examined the morphological and dimensional changes of the ear, and I. I. PALIK'S paper (5) contains data on the circumference of the head. Concerning this latter paper, I deem it worthy of note that the author proceeds rather reprehensibly and opens the door to the drawing of faulty notions when grouping his data, although without explanations or with the possible implications, in accordance with the study achievements of the children. And by this we have exhausted our home publications. For my part, I have investigated the body development of school children in the ninth district of Budapest, between February—June, 1958. An evaluation of the body measurements has been made in 1959 (Anthropol, Közl., 3, 1959, p. 3 — 4). In the course of studies, I have taken also some head, measurements, discussed in the present paper. In the course of investigations, I have examined the variations in the measurements of maximum length of head, maximum breadth of head, entire head height, head-ear height, morphological face height, bizygomatic breadth and bigonial breadth, of 821 schoolboys and 647 schoolgirls (a total of 1468 individuals), aged 7—17 years in boys and 7—16 years in girls.
