Syrrhopodon ciliatus (HOOK.) SCHWAEGR. The third, and simultaneously the most typical and best isolated, ciliferous species in Asia is Syrrhopodon ciliatus (HOOK.) SCHWAEGR. Its delimination presents no taxonomic problems; it can invariably easily identified by its charasteristics : the broadly linguiform leaf, the completely smooth, transparent and large laminai cells, the leaf bordered nearly to the apex (margin occasionally involute), the cilial ornamentation of the leaf margin and costa, and the eventually 200 u, long cilia. (Cf. Fig. 4 g-h.) The range of Syrrhopodon ciliatus includes: Singapore: leg. M. FLEISCHER, with the f. pseudopodianus FLEISCH. (FLEISCHER 1904:211 — 212), leg. H. N. RIDLEY (DIXON 1926:12), leg. V. SCHIFFNER 1893-94 (FROEHLICH 1953:75); Sumatra: leg. JUNGHUHN (FLEISCHER I.e., PARIS 1905:338, etc.); Banca: leg. KURZ (FLEISCHER I.e., etc.); W-Java: Buitenzorg, leg. KURZ, FLEISCHER 1899, with f. pseudopodianus FLEISCH.* (FLEISCHER I.e.), kampung Tjikeumeuti, 250 m,* cum f. pseudopodianus FLEISCH., leg. V. SCHIFFNER 1893 — 94 (FROEHLICH 1953:75) Cryptogamae Exsicctaae no. 4080;* Borneo: leg. KORTHALS (FLEISCHER I.e.), Sarawak, G. Dulit, leg. the Oxford Expedition, 1932 (DIXON 1935:82), etc. ; Celebes, leg. KURZ (FLEISCHER, PARIS I.e., etc.); Philippines: Mindanao, Agusan prov., leg. WEBER (BARTHAM 1939:84); Ternate: leg. Pócs; New Guinea: (FLEISCHER I.e., PARIS I.e.) ; West-New-Guinea, foothills of Star Mountains, Ajerok, 50 m and Woropko, 100 m, leg. B. O. VAN ZANTEN 1959 (ZANTEN 1964:279); Louisiades (ZANTEN I.e.); Admiralty Islands: (FLEISCHER, PARIS I.e., etc.) ; Caroline Islands: Ponape, leg. SAKURAI 1943, GLOSSMANN 1952; Ant. leg. STRECKER 1958 (MILLER—WHITTIER — BONNER 1963:13); Samoa: (ZANTEN I.e.). (Cf. map, Fig. 6.) Syrrhopodon ciliatus is a species of a characteristic range in Malaysia—Oceania, nowhere extending beyond the equatorial climatic zone. Fig. 6. The entire range of Syrrhopodon ciliatus (HOOK.)
