Móczár, L.: Kieffer's Mesitius and Epyris-Types in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae)

According to the original description : "Patrie. Prance : Dunkerque (DE GAULLE) ; Mont-de-Marsan (PEREIS); Amiens, en juillet (CARPENTER); Angleterre (MARSHALL)." According to the kind information of Prof. RICHARDS "Angleterre" given by KIEFFER is a "lapsus calami", — as "Swansea" given by KIEFFER (1906 p. 121) is also correctly "Swanage" (MÓCZÁR, 1965 p. 402) — is in reality not Angleterre, but Bretagne (France) (see MARSHALL'S label below!), consequently the specimen was found in Mus. Budapest bearing the data: "Brittany", "kemipterus Coll. MARSHALL" in KIEFFER'S writing, "liemipterus F. Bretagne" in MARSHALL'S writing, "Epyris n. sp." in MARSHALL'S writing, "95", "Epyris brevipennis KLEFF." in BIRÓ'S writing (light brown label) (mouth parts on celluloid) represents the original material and can be regarded as paralectotype, Hym. Type. Ko. 64. BERLAND (1928 p. 113), namely, chose the Dunkerque specimen as the lectotype in the Paris Museum. KIEFFER'S description was corrected by RICHARDS (1939 p. 325), our paralectotype differs from it only in relation of mesonotum. According to RICHARDS "Mesonotum four times as broad as long" and only three times in our specimen (including tegulae). Further data : eyes oval, cut off in front, separated by the length of the third antennái segment from mandibles, about one and a half times longer than its breadth (13 : 8), separated by nearly its breadth from occiput (7); ocelli very small, hardly distinct, posterior ocelli a little further from one another than to the anterior one (4 : 3), posterior ones separated from occiput by the distance of about their diameter; mandibles with one longer ventral tooth and some minute dorsal teeth; maxillary palpi with 6, labial palpi with 3 segments (Fig. 8); scape about twice longer than broad (9 : 4), segment 3 very short and transverse, length (and breadth) of antennái segments 1 - 13 = 9(4) : 3(2.5) : 2(2.5) : 3(3) : 3 : 3.5 : 3.5 : 3.5 : 3.5 : 3.5 : 3.5: 3: 4.5. Notaulices of mesonotum converging posteriorly, broadening and deepening before scutellum ; length of pronotum : mesonotum : scutellum : propodeum = 20 Fig. 8.
