Móczár, L.: Kieffer's Mesitius and Epyris-Types in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae)

20 4- 4 (collar) : 7 : 8 : 14 -j- 4 (decliving part) ; propodeum broader than long (16 + 14) ; lateral sides of propodeum slightly converging proximally (fore and hind breath = 15 : 16). Fore femora as long as hind ones (20 : 20) ; fore tibiae:, mid femora and tibiae of about equal lengths (14) ; fore tarsi as long as hind tibia (18 ) ; mid and hind tarsi gradually longer (26 : 31); fore tarsal segments 3—4 cordiform , 5 strongly enlarged ; mid tibiae spinate. Epyris tardus KIEFFER Epyris tardus KIEFFER, 1906, Spec. Hym., 9. p. 336 Q Epyris tardus: 1908, KIEFFER, Gen. Insect., 76. p. 28 Epyris tardus: 1914, KIEFFER, Das Tierreich, 41. p. 315 According to KIEFFER'S description: "Patrie. Russie: Astrakhan, en Avril (CSÍKI, expéd. ZICHY); Dobrudja (MONTANDON)." The data of the specimen found in Mus. Budapest are as follows: "Astrachan 28. IV. 1898", "Exp. ZICHY leg. CSIKI", "82", "Eptjris tardus" in BIRÓ'S writing (light brown label) (mouth parts on celluloid, left antennái segments from 5 missing), Hym. Type No. 65; "Dobrudja, Mäcin, A. L. MONTANDON", "Epyris tardus K." in KIEFFER'S writing (head, right fore leg, hind, left tibiae, tarsi missing), Hym. Type No. 66 ; "Dobrudja, Macin, A. L. MONTANDON", "Coll. MARSHALL" (mouth parts on celluloid; mid and hind left tibiae and tarsi missing), Hym. Type No. 67. From this original material I suggest to designate as lectotype the specimen from Astrachan and as paralectotypes the specimens from Dobroudja. The type specimens differ from KIEFFER'S diagnosis as follows: "yeux ... à peine aussi long que leur distance du bord occipital" in fact : almost one-third longer than distance separated from occiput (14 : 10); "Pronotum . . . deux fois aussi long que le mesonotum; celui-ci aussi long que le scutellum" correctly: pronotum four times as long as mesonotum (21 : 5) and scutellum about one and a half times longer than mesonotum (9 : 6 and 8:5). In addition to the description: frons smooth, very finely, pronotum normally alutaceous and very sparsely but distinctly punctured (there are only about 6—8 punctures in a line between eyes) ; eyes truncate in front, separated from mandibles by the distance of the posterior ocelli from occiput, nearly one and a half times longer than their breadth (14 : 10), eyes separated from occiput by equal length as the breadth of one (10) ; ocelli in a right angle, posterior ocelli nearer to the anterior one than to one another (3 : 4) ; mandibles with a very acute ventral tooth and with some minute dorsal teeth; maxillary palpi with 6, labial palpi with 3 segments (Fig. 10); antennae if laid back, rather short reaching only the scutellum, length (and breadth) proportions of segments 1 - 13 = 9(5) : 3(2) : 3(2.5) : 3.5(3) :4:4:4:4: 4:4: 4 : 4(2) : 6(2). Notaulices broadened, rather deep; propodeum slightly narrower proximally than distally, before its declivous part (18 : 19), broader than long (19 : 17), only with one complete longitudinal keel, on each side there is also one fine keel, which is slightly converging and diappearing before the middle part of the horizontal surface, these fine keels rounded at base; surface of propodeum finely rugulose between keels ; lengths of pronotum : mesonotum : scutellum : propodeum = 21 -f- 5: 5: 8 : 17 + 4. Fore femora remarkably long, equal with hind femora and tibiae; fore tibiae and tarsi about of equal lengths (17 : 18); mid tibiae spinate, as long as mid femora (14) ; hind tarsi longer than middle one (30 : 25) ; fore tarsal segments 3—4 cordiform, segment 5 strongly enlarged. Wings reaching the end of 2 nd abdominal segment.
