ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALIS HUNGARICI Tomus 58. PARS ZOOLOGICA 1966. Kieffer's Mesitius and Epyris-Types in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae) By L. MÓCZÁR, Budapest The previous publications of KIEFFER'S types (MÓCZÁR 1965, 1966) dealt with the Dryinidae and other Bethylidae in the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest. This paper intends to give a lead for the easy recognisation of KIEFFER'S types belonging to the genera Mesitius and Epyris found in our Museum, treated in the same way as in the preceding papers. The most distinctive characters of the treated species are summarized in a key, thus in this treatment only the differences between the original descriptions and the type-specimens are given, completing them with some essential data instead of long redescriptions. For the very useful advice concerning the types specimens I am greatly indebted to Prof. O. W. RICHARDS of London. The proportions given in the text were obtained, if not stated otherwise, at a magnification of 40 by a binocular microscope. Genus: Mesitius SPINOLA 1. Brachypterous species, wings reach at most the proximal part of propodeum. Thorax, legs, antennae reddish. Propodeum with only one longitudinal keel in the middle. Pronotum with a central furrow horváthi KIEFFER — Winged species, wings reach at least segment 3 of abdomen. Body black. Pronotum centrally with a longitudinal furrow.Head strongly punctured and densely alutaceous not rugulose 2 2. Pronotum very coarsely and densely punctured, head very densely punctured. Tergite 2 with rather deep but scattered punctures. Wings infuscated, antennae red. Large species 3—4.6 mm hungaricus KIEFFER — Pronotum densely alutaceous with only very few punctures. Head with scattered punctures. Tergite 2 with at most microscopically fine punctures. Wings slightly infuscated. Antennae dark reddish. Smaller species, 2.5 mm fuscicornis KIEFFER Mesitius horváthi KIEFFER Mesitius H orvat hi KIEFFER, 1906, Spec. Hym., 9. p. 389 $ Mesitius Horwalhi: 1908, KIEFFER, Gen. Insect., 76. p. 19 Mesitius horvathi: 1914, KIEFFER, Das Tierreich, 41. p. 295 9 KIEFFER wrote of the original material as follows: "Patrie. Hongrie: Budapest (Envoi de M. HORVÁTH). "The data of the specimen in Coll. Hung. Nat. Hist. Mus. (r= Mus. Budapest) are the same: "Budapest, Sashegy 6. X.", "37", "Mesitius horvathi" in BIRÓ'S writing (red label), consequently this species can be regarded as holotype, Hym. Type No. 61. (On the under side of label: "Budapest, Sashegy, 907. BLRÓ 6. X" in BIRÓ'S writing; the "907" is very probably erroneous.)
