THE ZOOLOGICAL RESULTS OF GY. TOTAL'S COLLECTINGS : SIPHONAPTERA 423 on to the plantar surface; the latter bears numerous minute setae. Two very short preapical plantar setae. Tarsal claws normal. Abdomen: Terga I —IV with three rows of setae, terga V —VII with only two rows. The numbers of setae in the main rows on each side of terga I —VII are respectively: 5, 8, 9, 9, 8, 8 and 6. Tergum II bears one stout marginal sub­dorsal spinelet on each side. Tergum VII with two antesensilial setae, below which the posterior margin of the tergum is strongly convex (Fig. 1). Sterna II —VII with several short setae in front of the main row. Modified abdominal segments, male (Figs. 1—3). Tergum VIII (Fig. 1) relatively small, its ventro-apical angle not drawn out into a triangular lobe; three short setae anterior to the fairly large spiracular fossa. Sternum VIII (Fig. 1) large, its posterior margin forming a broad rounded lobe which bears a row of five setae; seven setae on the lateral surface of this sternum. Apodeme of tergum IX narrow (Fig. 2). Fixed process of clasper (Fig. 2) short, with three long and several shorter setae along its posterior margin, several short ones at the apex and a number of thin and short setae scattered over the inner side of the process. Manubrium rather narrow. Movable process of clasper medium­sized, elongate, with a large number of slender setae of various lengths along the whole of the posterior margin and with a fair number of short and thin Fig. 1.
