Bohus, G. ; Babos, M.: Notes on the occurrence in Hungary of Russula species, with regard to their range in Europe

Lit. : in the Mts. Buda : in Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum and in Fagetum silvaticae subcarpaticum, Mt. Hársbokorhegy, Bohus (1952) ; Gyömro, Com. Pest, in oakwoods, Konecsni (1952—53) ; sub nom. R. consobrina var. sororia : Szöllőske, Com. Zemplén, Szemere (1927); Nyíregyháza, Com. Szabolcs, in oakwoods, Ubrizsy (1941); sub nom. R. livescens : in the Mts. Buda : Hűvösvölgy, S z c m e r e (1926). Russula sororia Fr. var. consobrina (Fr.) J. Schff. This form, of smooth and unpectinate cap-margins, occurs more frequently in Hungary than R. sororia, of tuberculately pectinate cap-margins. On the other hand, the variety is rarer in Europe than the nominate form. R. consobrina cannot be separated, either as a distinct species or as a subspecies, from R. sororia, since there occur also transitional forms (with partly sulcate margins). The spore measurements of the examined variety are identical with those of R. sororia. Nor did Rommel find any larger-sized spores (9—41 x 8—9 /.i). The spore pattern agrees with figures 6a, 7a, 7b (Schaeffer's spore table 1952). Herb. : in fageto, 23 June 1948, around Kőszeg, leg. Bánhegyi; in silva, 10 June 1946, Magyarkút, Com. Nógrád, leg. Ko st y ál; in the Mts. Buda : in silva mixta, 27 July 1957, 6 July 1958, Mt. Csúcshegy, leg. Bohus&Babos; in silva, 27 August 1951, Mt. Ilársbokorhegy, leg. Bohus; in the Mts. Pilis: in Potentillo-Quercetum (petraea, cerris) pannonicum, 1 July 1958, around the Lake Rekettyés, leg. Bohus&Babos; 27 June 1948, Dömös, leg. Kostyál. Lit. : around Budapest : Kamaraerdő (Ko vác s), Hűvösvölgy (S z e m ere) Moesz (1942). Mycocoenological survey data (Bohus&Babos 1958) : in the Mts. Pilis : in Potentillo-Quercetum (petraea, cerris) pannonicum, 1 July 1958, around the Lake Rekettyés. Russula velenovskyi Melz. & Zvara Distributed in Europe, a locally frequent species. It fructifies mainly under birches. Rare in Hungary Herb. : Pamuk, Com. Somogy, 10 Nov. 1948, leg. Bohus; in the Mts. Zemplén : in silva frondosa, 28 July 1959, Telkibáriya, leg. Babos. Russula versicolor J. Schff. Distributed in Europe, frequent in several countries. It fructifies exclusively under birches, and due to this connection, it is rather rare in Hungary. Herb.: Pamuk, Com. Somogy, sub Betulo, 10 Nov. 1948, leg. Bohus; in the Mts. Zemplén : in silva frondosa, sub Betulo, 17 Sept. 1957, around Kishuta, leg. Bohus&Babos; in pineto mixto, 26. Oct. 1958, Mt. Nagykerekhegy, leg. Bohus & Babos. Lit. : Sopron (Bohus, Kalmár, L e n k y) K a Imái (1956—-57), Pamuk Com. Somogy (S z e m e r e) Kalmár (1956—57). Russula veternosa Fr. sensu Cke. Owing to the diverse interpretation of the species, it is difficult to determine its distribution in Europe. For the same cause, the home literature data also defy evaluation. It probablv ranges over Europe, absent or very rare in certain areas. Infrequent in Hungary.
