from over the city only after 18 November, indicating that Cairo was again the scene of a big passage toward the S between 14—18 November. After 22 November, I did not observe it either along the desert-road between Cairo and Alexandria or in Alexandria. To sum up my observation data, it can be stated that flocks migrating from N to S arrive in Egypt in the first part of October and that the several flocks succeeding one after the other in shorter or longer intervals are still on the wing, passing toward S even in the second half of November. At the end of November, even the subspecies aegyptius Gm. tends to the S from the shores of the Mediterranean. Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus caeruleus caeruleus Desf.) I noted one specimen around Thebes on 23 October, 4 near Silsilia on 24 October, and 2 in Kom Ombo on the same day. I saw 12 specimens in Kom Ombo on our way back from Aswan on 28 October. Apart of these, I noted but 2 further specimens in Egypt ; one of them in the oasis Bir Abbad on 29 October, the other in Helwan on 17 November. The number of the collected specimens is : 3 males and 2 females. Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina pomarina Brehm) I observed one specimen on the Lake Karun on 10 October. The record is interesting due to the fact that there are very few notes in literature concerning the occurrence of this species in Africa. Bonellrs Eagle (Hieraaetus fasciatus fasciatus Vieill.) One specimen was circling above the ruins of the big temple of Karnak on 22 October, The record is interesting because the species is rare in Egypt. Long-legged Buzzard (Buteo rufinus rufinus Cretz., B. r. cirtensis Lev.) I observed it in places distant from each other ; so on the Lord Kitchener island at Aswan on 28 October ; in the oasis Bir Abbad in the Arab Desert on 29 October ; near Helwan on 10 November ; and in the vicinity of the Wadi Natrun between Cairo and Alexandria on 23 November. The specimens noted earlier and in the S belonged surely to the subspecies cirtensis Lev., a resident of Egypt. The bird observed near the Wadi Natrun at the end of November could already have been a migrant and so belonging to the nominate form. Sparrow-hawk (Accipiter nisus nisus L., A. n. nisosimilis Tick.) I met with 6 specimens in the Region during October. In view of the date, it is very improbable that these individuals should have belonged to the nominate form. This assumption is the more acceptable as the specimen shot on the
