Lord Kitchener island at Aswan on 27 October proved to be nisosimilis Tick. In the same locality, our Arab escorts also bagged a specimen on 26 October, but I had no occasion to establish its subspecific state. I noted also a further specimen on the same island on 28 October. Aside of the above ones, I noted 2 specimens in Kom Oshim on 6 October, and another one in Sohag on 19 October. That the recorded sparrow-hawks should have belonged to the nominate form is improbable also on the ground that, according to literature, European specimens occur exceedingly seldom in Africa. The subspecies nisosimilis Tick, shot in Aswan is of extraordinary faunistical interest, since, according to our knowledge up to now, this NE Asiatic form spends the winter in India but was never noted yet in Ceylon. The specimen shot in Aswan on 27 October is, as regards time, very early, and strikingly far from its range as recorded hitherto. Pale Harrier (Circus macrourus Cm.) I noted its migrating specimens in the following places and numbers : 1 female in Kom Oshim on 8 October, 1 male and 1 female in the same locality on the subsequent day, and 1 male also here on 11 October. I observed one female at El Balyana on 21 October. Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus aeruginosus L.) I sighted one specimen only on the reservoir of Kom Oshim on 12 October. Osprey (Pandion haliaetus haliaetus L.) I observed it only in the coastal area of the Red Sea. There were single specimens occurring sporadically between Marsa el 'Alam and Suez between 31 October and 6 November. I collected one female at Marsa el 'Alam and two females at Bir Safaga. Quail (Coturnix coturnix coturnix L.) I observed a specimen between Gizeh and Abu Rawash in the Delta of the Nile on 2 October. Due to the early date, we should regard it as belonging to the breeding population of Egypt. Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus chloropus L.) The solitary specimen observed not far from Sids in the province Beni Suef should be referable to the local population, partly because of the early date and the relatively southern occurrence, partly because I noted it in its natural habitat, on a lake bordered by aquatic plants.
