Festucion sulcatae-valesiacae, on andezité. A Mediterranean species. Ononis species are generally of basic number 8 and are polyploids, having counted 2n = == 60, that is, 2n = 32 in the case of the aneuploid species 0. hircina only. Concerning polyploidy, the above species require further examinations. 22. ! Vicia oroboides Wulf. 2n = 14 (2x). Near Nagykanizsa. Leg T. Pócs. An Alpine, Balkanian species, a member of the associations Fagetum and Querceto-Carpinetum, occurring solely in the southern parts of the country. 23. ! Vicia sparsiflora Ten. (=V. pilisiensis Asch, et Janka) n = 6 (2x). Leányfalu, Mts. Dunazug ; Querceto-Lithospermetum. A Pannonian, Balkanian species ; a preglacial relict. 24. Daphne cneorum L. 2n = 18 (2x). The Solymár wall ; Cseresnyésárok, Szár. In both localitites, from the association Festuco-Brometum erecti. A Central European montane, partially lowlands species, occurring equally on dolomite, limestone, and acid soils in Hungary. 25. ! Polygale amara L. n = 14 (4x). Kígyósvölgy, Balatongyörök ; Festuco-Brometum erecti. A Central European montane species. Its chromosome picture indicates a late diakinesis; no multivalents were observed; probably an allopolyploid. Ng 26. Cicuta virosa L. 2n — 22 (2x). Veresegyház, Cariceto-inflato-vesicariae, a' marsh plant becoming rare in Hungary. Its chromosome numbers conform with the data of 0 g a v a, and partially with those given by M e 1 d e r i s. This latter author had shown a tetraploid from the natural flora of Latvia. Nj 27. ! Seseli hippomarathrum Jacq. 2n = 20 (2x). Ördögorom, Budapest ; Festucetum sulcatae association, on dolomite. An Eurasian species of the plains or low hills. 28. Seseli osseum Cr. em. Simk. (S. dévényense Simk.) 2n = 18 (2x). Tétényi plateau, Budapest ; Festucetum sulcatae association, on limestone ; Mt. Kisszénás, Pilisszentiván ; Caricetum humilis, on dolomite. A montane, Pannonian, subendemic species. 29. ! Seseli varium Trev. 2n = 16 (2x). Pótharaszt ; Querceto-Convallarietum, and on its margins in Festucetum sulcatae ; on the sandy soil of the Plains. A Ponto-Mediterranean species. 30. ! Seseli leucospermum W. et K.* 2n = 22 (2x). Mt. Nagyszénás and Mt. Kisszénás, Pilisszentiván, on dolomite. The primary character species of Festucetum glaucae hung. A Hungarian endemic plant (Map : Zólyomi, Acta Biol. Acad. Sei. Hung. 7, 1-4, 1951, p. 22). The genus Seseli ranges chiefly to the Northern hemisphere ; of its species (about 35), the chromosomes of some 12 species have been examined together with the above ones. The basic numbers of the genus are, including the new one above, 8—9—10—11. With reference to the Dude classification, species with diverse basic numbers are relegated to the several sections ; it is highly probable that the cytotaxonomic examination of every species would produce a more natural classification. 31. Orlaya grandiflora (L.) Hoffm. 2n = 20 (2x). Mt. Sashegy, Budapest ; Festucetum sulcatae, on dolomite. 32. ! Apium repens (Jacq.) Rchb. (Helosciadium repens [Jacq.] Koch.) 2n = 22 (2x). Dunakeszi, in the clear, cold, running watter of the springs on the *The data (2n— 18) of Gardé — Malheiros — Gardé are erroneous. The authors ought to have revised the seeds (or the plants received from them) procured from the -Spanish Botanical Garden.
