a clear clutch of five eggs above the Pusztabánya valley in the Eastern Mecsek, 20. April, 1947. Data of observations : I have seen eighteen specimens in two flocks on the Jakabhegy, Western Mecsek, 5. December, 1943 ; but there was only one bird at the same place, on 9. January, 1944 ; as also on the 20. Jan. 1946. Finally, I have observed only one bird over Pécs 25. January, 1952. 4. Pyrrhula p. pyrrhula L. Bullfinch. — I have seen four specimens on the Jakabhegy, Western Mecsek, 5. December, 1943 ; and I found nine birds in the same place, 9. January, 1944 ' four of them were males. There were six specimens on the Misina-Tubes ridge in the Pécsi Alecsek 3. January, 1943 ; and I found one pair on the southern side of the Misina, (6. Jan.). I heard their song once in the same place (22. Jan.), once around the Lapis refuge (25. Jan.) ; and again on the Mandulás above Pécs (1. February). I saw thirteen specimens in three flocks on the Misina (5. Febr.), but only heard their voices the 6. Febr, and again over the Dömörkapu (7. Febr.) I have met with them in five different places on the southern side of the Misina (11. Febr.), and heard their song from every quarter but I was unable to catch sight of them at the same place (16. Febr.). I met with them in two points on the southern side of the Misina (20. Febr.), and their voices could still be heard (3. March.). I have observed still one specimen on the side of the Zengó'vár, Eastern Mecsek (17. March) ; and three males at the Lapis refuge in the Pécsi Mecsek (21. March) : I heard their voices from different points. Finally, I met with it twice in the Middle Mecsek (Zobák,- Árpádtető, 23. March). 5. Loxia c. curvirostra L. Crossbill. — A flock of six specimens flew over the Báránytető on the southern side of the Misina, 6. January, 1946, 6. F ringilla c. coelebs L. Chaffinch. — A very frequent, everywhere occurring bird : there are many specimens also in the older woods. I wish to mention only some more interesting data of its numerous nestings and observations of occurrence. I saw a male bird on the Jakabhegy (Western Mecsek), 5. December, 1943; and two males at the same place, 9. January, 1944. I found four males on the southern side of the Misina, 30. January, 1946; and I have observed besides of many males two females also in a flock consisting of about 60 or ¥0 Yellow Buntings, and Goldfinches, 6. February. 7. Aegithalos caudatus europaeus Herrn. Long-tailed Tit. — A rather frequent and generally distributed bird. I found fresh clutches of eight eggs in the Pécsi Mecsek (6. January, 1946), of ten eggs in the Eastern Mecsek (7. April) and of nine eggs in the Middle Mecsek (7. April). I happened on its still empty nest built on the top of a pine on the southern side of the Jakabhegy, 9. April, 1946 ; and a clutch of ten eggs on the Misina (Pécsi Mecsek), 8. April, 1948. Some data of observations : I saw a large flock near Pécs, December, 1943 ; and have met with three other ones on the Jakabhegy (Western Mecsek). There were other flocks in the Eastern Mecsek, around Püspökszentlászló and Zobák, 25. March, 1944; and I saw eight specimens on the Misina-Tubes ridge, 3. January, 1946. A. flock of six specimen was staying at the Dömörkapu, 17 January ; and six specimens around the Misina ridge, 19. Jan. I found a flock of five on the northern side of the Pécsi Mecsek, 3. March; and have seen four specimens in the side of the Misina (Mandulás), 19. March. It was still in flocks (five specimens) on the southern side of the Jakabhegy, 20. March ; but they have already broken up into pairs (two of them) on the southern side of the Misina the next day (20. March). I saw one pair in Püspökszentlászló, Eastern Mecsek (23. March), and have found two nests with three eggs in a garden of Óbánya (Eastern Mecsek), 24. March. Besides, I have discovered another nest under construction and two pairs of birds in Kisújbánya and the Farkasárok, on the same date. I happened on another pair in. Zobák, Middle Mecsek, and another one in Pécsbudafa, Pécsi Mecsek ; and saw two other pairs on the southern side of the Western Mecsek, 28 March. 8. Regulas r. regulus L. Goldcrest. — I found five specimens on the southern Misina, 16. October, 1943 : they were looking for food on pine trees and young oaks. There were five specimens (probably the same) in the same place (19. Oct.) ; and have again met with them on the 23rd. There was one specimen in the company of Blue Tits on the southern side of the Misina, 3. January, 1946. I saw further two other birds between Tettye and the Dömörkapu, 17. January ; while three others were staying around the Lapis refuge, 25. Jan. I have, observed three specimens on the southern side of the Misina, and five in the woods between the Mély valley and the Vágót on the northern side, 2. February. I saw two smaller flocks on the southern side of the Misina, 4. Febr., three specimens over Tettye, 5. Febr., and three again around the Mandulás, 7. Febr. I have found them there again, 20. Febr. Finally, I have seen one at the Kozári hunting lodge in the Pécsi Mecsek, 23. March. It is therefore rare owing to the scarcity of pine-trees. 9. Phylloscopus c. collybita Vieill. Chiffchaff. •— I have observed one specimen on the skirt of a wood, the southern side of the Misina, 21. March, 1946. Its song may be heard sporadically • in breeding time in the whole Mecsek. There are not many of them. I have not found its nest. 10. Phylloscopus trochilus fitis Bechst. Willow Warbler. —• I have not met with it myself. •According to Agárdi, it is rare in. the Pécsvárad forests ; he did not find it nesting. 11. Phylloscopus s . sibilatrix Bechst. Wood Warbler. — I have seen one specimen on the southern side of the Misina, 15. August, 1945. I heard its song once around Kantavár in the Pécsi. *> 'it
