39 DOMENICO CAMPAGNOLA. MARY MAGDALENE ARRIVING TO MARSEILLES. BUDAPEST, MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS variegated oeuvre." Notwithstanding the numerous unanswered questions that continue to surround him —first of all, that the precise chronology of his works, the number of which considerably increased in the past few years, has not been resolved, with the knowledge of his late figurai compositions, we can conceive a more nuanced picture of the final two decades of his draughtsmanship. Thanks to the inscription, David and Goliath figured as a drawing of Campagnola already in the Esterházy collection, while later Iván Fenyő turned attention to the similar composition study at Christ Church, Oxford.' As regards the originality of the Budapest sheet, no serious doubt was invoked in connection with the drawing that might have been produced together with its Oxford variant at the turn of the 1560s.
