VADÁSZ, LINDA: Friends of the Museum Celebrate Fifth Anniversary
Following the restoration of two Canaletto paintings on loan to the British Embassy and paid for with donations by British American Tobacco and Tesco that were secured by His Excellency, Nigel Thorpe, Ambassador of Great Britain, the Friends have initiated their Painting Restoration Project. We have put together a catalogue of works in need of restoration that were chosen in consultation with Miklós Mojzer, Ildikó Ember, chief curator of the Old Masters department, and András Fáy, one of the museum's restorers. We are pleased that Parmalat Hungária has now sponsored the restoration of Giuseppe Maria Crespi's painting of A Peasant Family (fig. 76). The Friends have also sponsored a number of special events. Our first reception, held in February 1995, was co-sponsored by the former American Ambassador to Hungary, His Excellency Donald Blinken, and his wife, Vera. The occasion was a farewell party in honor of the exhibition, Treasures of Venice, which left on a yearlong tour of American museums. It was at this event that the Friends attracted its first members. 76. Giuseppe Maria Crespi: A Peasant Family. Budapest. Museum of Fine Arts. Restauration sponsored by Parmalat Hungária
