Independent edifices: - Greek Catholic Church from Mándok

Until 1814 people were buried in the churchyard and it was fenced off as it is in the museum. Crosses from Greek Catholic graveyards in north-eastern Hungary have been set up around the tin Corpus on the crucifix of the cemetery. • Saint Nicholas presents the life of Jesus and Mary. The 4 large icons making up the bottom row are that of St. Nicholas, the Virgin with Child, The Almighty and The Chorus of Angels. In the middle the 18th century panel painting of St. Nicholas, patron saint of the church, was placed on a stand, displayed for kissing. In the sanctuary, where only men were permitted the original tabernacle, preparatory altar and a hewn chest with the priests attires can be found. St. Nicholas, Bishop of Mira is the patron saint of the Orthodox Church and that of the church at Mándok. He was a generous saint who gave people his love. Owing to his importance in Hungary the custom of giving presents on his day (December 6th) became widespread (Mikulás). In Greek Catholic villages nuts, fruits, and occasionally roosters were blessed in church and the congregation presented the priest with gifts of poultry. 183
