The mechanical engineer György Jendrassik had been working in the Ganz factory and wanted to find a solution for the problems of diesel engines of high speed. As a first step, he solved the starting of cold engine, and after, the injection of gasoline. The "diesel engine Ganz-Jendrassik" was patented in 1925. This was the first diesel engine with pre-combustion chamber, which could be started with cold ignition. His was a European success story: English, Belgian, French, Dutch, Romanian and Spanish companies bought the production rights. This product family has been working for almost 50 years for the Hungarian railway companies. Its importance is highlighted by the fact that 55 % of the complete engine fleet consisted of such carriages in 1930. The Árpád rail bus This rail bus was MÁV's first fast railcar with eight-wheels; the first two examples have been constructed by the GANZ factory at its own risk in 1934. The diesel engine was created by György Jendrassik. MÁV has bought the two railcars and made them run on the line Budapest-Vienna. The Hargita motor train The design of the HARGITA type motor train for main lines was ready by 1939. MÁV intended to employ these trains for the line Budapest-Sepsiszentgyörgy. The first train consisted of two railcars and two carriages between them. Its production was interrupted in 1944 due to the war. The model was renewed in 1951 for the purposes of the government: the leaders of the state party liked this train of luxury quality.
