FAMOUS HUNGARIAN RAIL BUSES; I 1 s tfil ä rliMu ? «I qil^^s^n^lKii^ After World War I mixed trains consisting of passenger-carriages and goods wagons run slowly and costly on the almost 4400 km long branch-lines. The first petrol and diesel driven railcars were employed in the 1920s for the lines on the flatland. They reached almost the double speed and reduced to half the travelling time after the passenger-carriages and goods wagons were separated. On MÁV's initiative, the GANZ és Társa - Danubius Gép-, Waggon- és Hajógyár Részvény- társaság became the most important producer of motor vehicles for the railway. Several rail buses and railcars propelled by petrol engines were produced to carry passengers on several railroads in Hungary. 16
