KRÓNIKA

On the next evening, a General Assembly of the International Society was arranged in the festive hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, where the national delegates had an opportunity to present a report on their activities and recent events of medical historical interest in their homeland. The report of the Hungarian Society was presented by the eminent medical historian Dr. G. Birtalan, who was the presidential supervisor of the scientific programme of the Congress. Ot the same day, an organ concert took place at the Matthias-Church in the evening, attended and enjoyed by a great number of guests and their hosts. 4. Closing of the Congress The closing session of the Congress was held on the 29 th August at 5,30 p. m., when the scientific programme had ended. After some reminiscences and a summary by Dr. Schultheisz, Dr. Poynter, as President, on behalf of the International Society, thanked the Organizing Committee for the successfull arrangement of the Congress. Then the International Secretary General, Dr, Dulieu, summarized his impressions and experiences, gained during the Congress, and was joined by Dr. H. Eulner (Göttingen), Dr. D. Tutzke (Berlin), Dr, J, P. Lisitsyn (Moscow), Dr. G. Miller (Cleveland), Dr. J. M. Llopis (Caracas), Dr. Z. Ohya (Osaka), Dr. Sondervorst (Louvain) and Dr. Fortier de la Broquerie (Québec), who all expressed their appreciation and thanks on behalf of their respective national groups. Dr. Schultheisz then presented Dr. Poynter, Dr. Dulieu, Dr. Sondervorst, Dr. Petrov, Dr, Lisitsyn, Dr, Kaiser and Dr. Szpilczynski with honorary diplomas for their outstanding achievements in Medical History, and declared them as elected to the honorary membership of the Hungarian Society for the History of Medicine. Dr. Kaiser offered sincere thanks on behalf of the honoured personalities. Finally Dr. Schultheisz declared the official programme of the XXIV th International Congress of the History of Medicine closed. Almost every participant of the Congress met at dinner-table at the gala banquette arranged in the Hotel Duna Intercontinental in the evening. Although some of the guests departured on the next day, a great number of them registered for the bus trip to the town Veszprém and the Lake Balaton. They inspected the exhibition about "Ethnomedicine in Hungary" in the Museum of Veszprém, and then paid a visit to Tihany and Balatonfüred, a world famous resort and spa for the suffering from heart diseases for more than a century. The personal statements of many guests and the favourable comments written in the Visitors' Book of the museums and libraries, as well the letters received after the Congress, bear witness of the fact that most people have left the meeting in Budapest satisfied and with pleasent memories. As regards the scientific achievements of the Congress, the final view can only be gained after the publication of the full text of all lectures in the Proceedings of the Congress, which should appear in print within the next two years.
