DURST JUDIT: „Csak a pénzre hajtik mind"? Az antropológiai megközelítés haszna a demográfiában

Why to use anthropological perspectives in demography studies The article reviews the literature of the so called 'anthropological demography' and provides empirical examples as illustrations for the use of anthropological approach in demographic researches. The case studies carried out in three small villages in the nothern part of Hungary where the majority of the residents are Gypsies show that we can have a better understanding of the fertility behaviour if we carry on with mixed method, microlevel researches using both qualitative and quantitative data. We investigate the reasons for the increasing fertility and the proliferation of the teenage motherhood in the studied, 'gypsified' villages. We argue that although the structural conditions (namely, unemployment and segregation) have a great impact on fertility behaviour, the cultural contexts of the studied communities have their contributions too.
