BARBARA SÓLYOM Social and marital mobility in a Hungarian village, Dunabogdány This essay focuses on social mobility generally and marital mobility particularly in a Hungarian village with ethnically mixed inhabitants, Dunabogdány. While social mobility as a multidimensional process is the subject of many inquiries, marital mobility is a much less well-represented field in the social sciences. In the first part of the study the analytical concepts will be introduced, in the second part a concrete case study will be presented in detail. This study is aimed at showing how marital mobility is embedded in all the other dimensions of social mobility, and, on the other hand, how the whole process of social mobility can be better understood with the help of this particular social phenomenon.
